Orthodox General /OG/ - Mysticism of the Med Edition

> What is the Orthodox Christianity?
This is the one true apostolic church of Christ. Started in Palestine amongst the Palestinian Jewish population, it spread through the miracles of our Lord, Christ, and His disciples. They taught in all tongues and baptized in His name. These disciples spread across the Mediterranean, spreading the Orthodox faith to Syria, Anatolia, and most importantly, Greece. Today, the Orthodox Church (or Eastern Orthodox) holds roughly 330million believers worldwide, situated in eastern/central Europe, the Middle East, Caucuses, and Eastern Africa (orientals).
> The role of Greece
The Orthodox faith is Semitic Levantine in its roots, but its development was nurtured in the arms of Hellenistic Greek philosophy. Ethics, law, the idea of an immortal divine soul, all melded the Greek philosophies with the Levantine origin of the Bible. The first Bibles were translated into Greek, and the Greeks adopted Christianity as some of its first followers. To say Christianity is Jewish is not factual. Modern Judaism began in 550AD and is rabbinical. Biblical Judaism was priestly, and fulfilled by Christ Himself. To say Christianity is Levantine only, or European only, is also false. Christianity was spread as a result of combining the Biblical Levantine narrative with the Hellenic philosophy.
> hurr orthodoxy is just russian
Russians are not even close to a majority. I myself am Syrian.

> What are Orthodox Values?
Aside from theology, the Orthodox Way includes the path of family, adulthood, and responsibilities. Orthodox Christians are urged to have many children, marry a wife that is obedient to her husband, and a caretaker to raise the children.
> priests
Orthodox priests, unlike Catholic priests, are allowed to marry and are recommended to have many children as well. I personally think most human men cannot handle celibacy, and placing completely celibate men in a church with families never made sense to me. Most orthodox priests have a wife and 5-6 children, at least where i'm from in western syria. Lebanon and jordan are much the same, and I've heard Russia and Greece are too.

> Differences Between Orthodoxy and Catholicism
> youtube.com/watch?v=Qdr7u6IP6sg
Aside from the theological and ritualistic differences stated in the video, Catholicism has widely been associated with European legalism, and a doctrinal understanding of the reasoning for God's complexity.
Whereas Orthodoxy has combined Greek philosophy with Levantine monotheism to form a mystical, ritualistic worship of the Almighty.
Where Catholicism is reasoned, Orthodoxy is mystical.

> but Orthodoxy has rituals!
What exactly is wrong with rituals, to begin with? The Biblical Jews (note, not modern Talmudists) were extremely ritualistic. They had to remain ritualistically pure just to enter the Temple, which was only permitted on rare instances. Anybody that attempted to get near the Holy of Holies was sentenced to death. The judaic priests (again, not talmudic rabbis) had to ensure that they were washed of any filth (urine, blood, dirt, disease, sweat) before entering the House of the Lord. Orthodoxy is not some new-age reinterpretation of Jesus' best quotes, it is an unbroken traditional incarnation of the Biblical monotheistic faith in God. We have been unchanged since the very beginning.

Here's a map I created which displays Orthodox Christian nations with a majority, as well as those with a historic minority. I'm not putting the small assemblies in Kenya, the US, or elsewhere because they're relatively new and not an established minority.

The heretical Pharisee mods will try to remove this.

Orthodoxy is the truest form of Christianity, i'm Coptic myself.

Also, Oriental Orthodoxy isn't limited to East Africa, it started in North Africa (Egypt specifically) and then spread to east Africa.

>truest form of Christianity
The Bible doesn't say that. Here's what Jesus Christ says about the Orthodox:

>" And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges; I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth. But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it." Revelation 2:12-17

>one true apostolic church of Christ
Guess that means the Catholic Church is the holy one.

what is this garbage apologetec diagram you have ? where are your miracles ? doproties got an altar to God ? get out

^ cuz the paraplegic wants to shit on the amputee. Just sad.

proties unchristian

Quote the parts you disagree with as an Eastern Orthodox:
I believe in God the father of the almighty
Creator of heaven and earth
And in Jesus Christ
His only son or lord
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost
Born of the Virgin Mary
Suffered under pontious pilot
Was crucified, died, and buried
He descended into hell
The third day he rose again from the dead
He ascended it k heaven
Sitters at the right hand of the father
From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead
I believe in the Holy Ghost
The holy catholic Church
The communion of saints
The forgiveness of sins
The resurrection of the dead
And life everlasting
Amen

Not an argument

You are correct. It was rather a request for information. I am open to converting from Catholicism to Eastern Orthodox and wild like to know to start if they disagree with the Apostle’s Creed I was taught to memorize as a young boy.

there are a WHOLE lot of miracles in the orthodox church, stop posting ignorance

kike prot bs

Also quote from the Lord’s Prayer and the Hail Mary on where you disagree if you could.
Basically just tell me short what the fuck is the difference because to me it’s purely presentational.
Heard once that Eastern Orthodox has a mix of Hinduism in from their proximity to the Hindu Cush via Asia Minor and that you guys meditate to become gods or some other kooky shit.

I’m not opposed to 15min of prayer, or praying for hours in an adoration chapel, and there light be materialistic benefits to that like secular meditation, but you guys seem to do meditstion for special powers and that’s fake and gay brah.

I absolutely despise that the bottom line on all Abrahamic religions has managed to have gotten lost:
It's a blood oath amongst men, sworn on their own cocks, that they will control their desires to ensure that every man gets to have a family, and that the penalty for a man breaking the oath is death, and that the penalty for the woman who betrays her man is also death. It pains me to no end that the only people who understand this are the goddam camel jockeys.

Greetings from the Midwest! Hope you all have been approaching an inner stillness!

Sup Conte

>but you guys seem to do meditstion for special powers and that’s fake and gay brah.
except that unline budhism and hinduism and that other gay shit, this is actually real.
Saint Paisios is the newest canonized saint and as such as a lot of miracles and stories that you can read about, including this which i think is related to what you're talking about
orthodoxpath.org/saints-and-elders-witnesses/elder-paisios-young-george-far-east/

the buddhist meme is a nonargument that comes from tradcats

Can you guys elaborate a Prottie willing to conver about few concepts:
what is grace and how does it become to existing / exists?
What are godly energies that Palamas talked about?
How does one absolve himself from his sins?
Does salvation come from God's grace or good works or something else?
What are the relationships between the aspects of Trinity if filioque is not correct?
Why isn't orthodox church conducting aggressive conversion missions like Protties & catholics do?

Why do the Orthodox Christians believe that Jesus Christ has Two wills? If he simply had a human will and a divine will, then why was Monothelistelism so rampant?

Perhaps why so many westerners like and tradcats feel so foreign to our spirituality has to do with the west being so spiritually and morally depraved for the past few centuries. The east, with all its stub-lings and vices from communist times and muslim oppression, has managed to preserve the true spirit that God breathed into his church (John 20:22)

Among what the west has lost, Hesychasm is the greatest red pill of all time.
Provided that ones discipline is directed towards silence and overcoming oneself, the lives of the holy fathers like Seraphim of Sarov and Anthony the great is some of, if not the most enlightened paths of this earthly world.

Attached: 182741.p.jpg (300x389, 25K)

Why does Jesus Christ have two wills. And if he does have two wills: one human and one divine why was Monothelitism so popular

What is this bullshit?

Indeed, it is even a struggle, to be sure, for the orthodox Catholic Christian living in our day of puffed up knowledge to escape some of the pitfalls lying in wait for those who wish to read such works in their full meaning and content. Yet, having said this, the writings are concerned with themes of universal importance for all of those who are seeking to live holy lives in accord with the teachings of the Gospel - - watchfulness of heart, stillness, unceasing prayer and the struggle with the passions. These writings are not only for monks but for all those who are striving for union with God. St. Tikhon, it has been said, called on all Christians to become “untonsured monks.” Such a return to the sources of our spiritual tradition is meant to accomplish just that - to bring the spirituality of the Philokalia into our everyday living. The desired result of such an endeavor is to live holy lives that will bring glory to God. One of the most beautiful invitations to read the Philokalia comes from St. Nicodemus who complied these great writings. I can't think of a more wonderful invitation to read the Philokalia than these words of St. Nicodemus:
"Come, therefore, come and eat the bread of knowledge and wisdom, and drink the wine which spiritually delights the heart and dispels all the material and immaterial things because of deification - which is caused by the liberation of ourselves - and become inebriated with the truly alert inebriation. Come all you who seek to find the kingdom of God which is hidden in the field of your heart. And this is the sweet Christ. Thus being freed from the imprisonment of this world and the wandering of the mind, with our heart purified from the passions, with the awesome unceasing invocation of our Lord Jesus Christ together with the collaborating virtues

>i ignore the actual context of Revelation and its own description of the seven churches' issues and project my own fan fiction into it

>share a religion with Romanians
Think I'll pass on that one.

>Why isn't orthodox church conducting aggressive conversion missions like Protties & catholics do?
Because we believe that its up to god to bring people into the faith, the best we can do is to preserve our traditions, culture and the faith while keeping our Church doors open, people come natural through the beauty of tradition, faith and love.

As an Orthodox Christian it is up to us to become spiritual and physical chads in order to show the beauty of our faith to others.

Each country has there own Orthodox Church with its own unqiue and cultural traditions
