>Be me, go to my academic adviser >Why do I need all these Chem, Math, History, and other courses that have zero relevance to my academic area of interest My adviser say's, the school just requires that you have them, they're called pre requisite courses >I say to my Adviser, okay, but why, what is the purpose, my degree from start all the way up to doctorate consists of literally nothing but straight Psych courses, there is literally not one other type of class or course all the way up to doctorate, why She tell's me that I'm not gonna like the answer >I tell her just to level with me, and here is what she said in a nutshell
If you look at the school's pass rate, you will see it's less than 20%. But this number is actually incorrect as the real pass rate is even lower, around the 10% area.
Schools require prerequisites not because you actually need them, but because it's an excellent business scheme, it's guaranteed revenue for the school in a not so nice kind of way. Take for example a BA in English. This degree is literally Writing and Reading Centered. The focal point of the whole degree consists of writing, and proof reading. There is no reason on God's green earth that anyone interested or gifted in writing should be required to take Microbiology, Sociology, or Pre Calculus. But that's how the school makes it's money.
>I ask, if it's always been this way
No, you used to be able to get into a program a lot easier. I've been advising students here for 17 years, and I've seen students who were gifted at math, get held up for 7 years with Chem, Bio, and Philosophy prerequisites. I've seen exquisite writers who should be editors for publishers never finish their AA degree in english because of all the STEM requisites their degree requires. It's all a scam. Meanwhile a guy who comes into the Trade School for Electrician finishes in 8 months, and in two years is pulling in roughly $22 per hour with full benefits.
Just to kind of add on to what I already was getting at:
College for the most part is a giant scam. The prerequisites are not so that "you can be a more well rounded student" like they always try and say. It's nothing more than a subtle underhanded way to trip a student up in one way or another. If you have a student who is good in the Arts such as (Sociology, Philosophy, English), well, require that they take something STEM related, especially if it's something they may need to retake over and over and over again.
Same thing goes for STEM guys, require that the nerd take a bunch of electives like Art, Phiolosophy or something completely contradictory to their area of academic interest. It will ensure the maximum amount of revenue for the school.
I want to know how this whole thing could be changed. Do people write the Department of Education, how could masses of people remedy this shit problem?
Asher Morris
Except without a college degree you are FUCKED
Nathan Fisher
>$22 an hour
I wouldn't get out of bed for that. I earn double as a labourer with no qualifications.
Gabriel Lopez
Op whines. Back in the day, you had to be intelligent just to get in, as in there was a foreign language requirement.
Gabriel Martinez
if you can't pass gen Ed stem classes you're of actual subhuman intelligence and don't deserve a degree
Joseph Williams
WRONG. There is a guy who has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, he delivers pizza to make ends meet. And he's still paying off his 90k in student debt.
How is it that if you take out a loan for something that may or may not help you, then you're good, but if you don't you're fucked? How does that work.
Samuel Morris
someone had to explain this to you? it's fucking obvious. it's why I laugh at most people who go to college.
Nicholas Moore
Maybe pick a real degree and you won't end up in that situation?
Undergrad in some garbage Arts degree shouldn't even be a thing
Brandon Reed
This is why I am terrified to go into higher education. I'd never pass this shit.
Ryder Sanders
you can remedy the problem by shooting professors in the head.
I wish there were no laws so you can take justice into your own hands. people and organizations will be a lot more scared to scam you then.
Julian Thomas
Start own business or work in trades then start own business
Camden Moore
right. I mean that makes perfect sense. Why would you NOT have someone who is a gifted writer take: Psychology 101 & 230 Philosophy 101 History 120 Statistics Pre Calclus Chem 1 & 2
I mean we can't have students just taking core classes and Acing all them, especially when we could require that they take mandatory classes that they will likely fail and have to take over again providing us with maximum shekels.
Ayden Thompson
If you can’t pass those prerec STEM courses you shouldn’t consider yourself educated. Probably 4x as many people go to college as should. Colleges should fail a lot more than they do.
Mason Williams
This whole world is a fucking scam. No matter what, you are to suffer one way or another.
Take this from someone who actually knows the real purpose of human civilization.
Im taking night classes now, its amazing. I dont give a fuck about getting a diploma im just learning what I want to learn.
Lucas Fisher
Stop bro, jus because some chooses to educate themselves in art, does not mean they deserve the debt with college degree
>At 18 your not allowed to drink but you can get a loan you can never get rid of?
Brandon Rodriguez
8 months lol. Bet you think union be the way to go too. And that you need a 401k
Who here rapes life insurance pensions!
Brody Myers
The adviser said pretty much that in the end. Apparently there is something called (Lineman Electrician), the work is hard, but the training is about 15 weeks, and the minimum salary is about 55k-60k, and most end up making 100k plus per year, with only 15 weeks worth of training. 200k+ in California
Alexander Clark
You really want a bunch of engineers that can’t write? People that go to college should know basic math, science, writing, and history.
Zachary Brooks
>in California Fuck off, we're full.
Ian Lopez
If you are taking psych and you are not taking at minimum stats and calc you are part of the problem.
Always take math for psych. Always. 90% of your fucking field does not know how to do a simple laplace transform let alone interpret stats without manipulation to make it fit nicely. >t. Bsc Psych aka 30k wasted
Christopher Smith
>pass rate is 10% >instead of keeping the guy for four years lets give him all those bullshit courses so that he drops out in his second year >excellent business scheme
Oliver Flores
You can learn everything about art online tho
Zachary Ross
You will never be an investment banker or doctor without a degree
Anthony Jackson
It's 2 yrs in Kansas and they make good money. but it's hard work and also sucks during certain times of the year. I'd say go for the money till you find something you love
Austin Lee
If you're dumb enough to shell out 90k for a nonsensical psuedoscience degree that's 10x easier than any actual STEM degree while simultaneously having no career prospects unless you're a Phd then it's your fault for being so stupid.
If you're dumb enough to make such an astronomically stupid investment you shouldn't even be in college.undergrad is a mess because it keeps letting in and passing retards like that. Meme degrees need to fucking die
Logan Watson
Yeah college is a huge scam, and everyone's afraid to challenge it. The schools primary purpose is to turn a profit, and secondary purpose is marxist brainwashing. I learned more at community college than I did at my current uni (4 year).
Dominic Roberts
None of those courses truly educate you and I've passed all of those classes.
Leo Edwards
WHY?
Why should the person who want's a degree in English or even something like philosophy know or need to learn how to solve Quadratic Equations or find Derivatives?
Do you know how many Nurses I've seen sit down and work out the Slope to a given graph?
FUCKING ZERO
Prerequisites are a scam. There is no need for someone who want's a degree to study microbiology or Chemistry, it literally serves no purpose other than the college or university to get more money out of a student.
Camden Howard
Aren't these kind of requirements for degrees set by the state?
Logan Hall
There is a lot of information out there. Strong point
When you are young you can make silly decisions and not realize the consquence of your decisions.
If people you trust tell you to go to school then you will. It's not there fault for having faith in the system
Kayden Murphy
You sound like an absolute simian either way; to approach university level psychology without chemistry and biology backgrounds leaves you like puddy in the hands of pharmaceutical wizards who can essentailly convince you of anything.
University psychology is horseshit anyway, why not get a real degree?
I got a neuroscience degree and I actually have a job in my field after four years at school.
Don't be a braindead nigger. Don't get a psychology degree
Shutup cunt. A bottle of coke costs $5 and houses in Shitsville are over $1 million. Aussie dollars are worthless. Who cares if you've got more of them.
Levi Wright
English doesn't even deserve to exist at a college level, all English majors would be better off learning something useful like Calculus than being babied through their trivial program
Kevin Thompson
Lol do you srsly think you can suddenly change their curriculum? If you took the pill, either swallow it or spit it out but just dont bitch and moan like a pussy.
imagine planning on completing a doctorate degree and thinking it's a scam to learn entry-level material from other fields reminds me of my buddy who goes on about how high school is a big waste of time and a scam and he sits at home watching tai lopez and mark cuban on youtube telling him how to be successful lol
Nathan Richardson
I don't know, that's what I'm interested in finding out. I thought it was the department of education, but I'm not sure.
Bottom line is this, many colleges and universities, or rather MOST, all require
>NON DEGREE SPECIFIC COURSES
LET'S TAKE AN ELECTIVE FOR EXAMPLE What the fuck is an elective, and why do I have to take it? It's literally the school saying "well, you don't REALLY need anymore classes, but we want money, so pick a random class out of this catalog, give us money and take it".
Logan Ramirez
Did you really just figure that out? Goodness.
Matthew Ramirez
>$22 an hour is good Definitely better off than the cuck that took out loans to go to (((college))) without connections tho
Logan Jones
BOOHOO COLLEGE IS A SCAM.
Stop being a god-damned bitch and either quit and join a trade or suck it up and get through it. It's not some conspiracy you fucking retard. You're not redpilled on college. Holy fuck. I hate zoomers.
Henry Gutierrez
College is conditioned into people, everybody just accepts the fact that they nickle and dime you. Having large debts is becoming more and more common (thankfully I won't have much debt). Because of the amount of people graduating with degrees the market is becoming over saturated with college degrees, devaluing their worth. There is also a gap in the graduation rates between men and women, with women's graduation rates increasing and men's decreasing. College is a racketeering scam and it might take another decade or two but the lid is about to blow off it. The primary purpose of college should be to educate, but people are focused on the degree. Instead of learning and developing critical thinking they receive their Marxist brainwashing and often graduate dumber than they went in.
Mason Morgan
Taking Psych. Chem not needed to get to PhD.... Math not needed to get to PhD... kys
Grayson Perry
Kys, brainlet.
Christian Young
My dad still whines about having to take English when he went to University for the first class of comp sci ever in the country. You're supposed to actually learn about the world, they were never meant to be pure job mills, you're supposed to be getting an actual education.
Kevin Sanders
In real programs electives let you specialize further in your field of study, but I guess you wouldn't know what a real curriculum is like Arts major
Landon Gonzalez
Yeah, unfortunately.
I do agree that people in the STEM fields need to know their science related shit. But then once again, we are brought right back to square one. I've known a fella who was in school for Mechanical Engineering, had all his STEM courses DONE, but had about 4-6 electives he needed to take. Shit like Phiolosophy, Art Appreciation, etc.
The guy could solve any math or Chemistry problem you threw at him, but if you asked him what Socrates mean when he said (fill in the blank), the guy couldn't answer.
This whole thing is about Colleges, requiring that students take/ be force-fed, courses and classes that have FUCK ALL to do with their actual degree.
Nope, degree in accounting and I work in delivery.
>HURRR DURRR YOU’RE JUST DUMB YOU DID IT WRONG YOU DIDNT WORK HARD ENOUGH YOU DIDNT NETWORK YOU DIDNT [insert generic boomer argument] YOU MUST BE A FUCK UP.
No I did all those things, but I quit the field becase I was simply unhappy. I almost became suicidal, and after working in 4-5 different jobs with 97 IQ females, H1b dogs, and niggers I knew that this was not going to work. The work of my colleagues was so pathetic, my job was too easy, and they would not let me do the advanced work I was more than ready for. Skill, intelligence, and general merit means nothing, and rather it was all based on vapid artificial factors such as small talk and obedience.
I literally took Jow Forums‘s advice 4 years ago: PICK AN IN-DEMAND MAJOR.
I should have done something I actually liked and could work for myself with or dropped out. Now I have to recreate myself and figure out my life. At least the accounting skills will be handy when starting a business. Not worth 30k though.
I agree.......but still kids shouldn't be punished for getting loans to pursue higher education and we should have empathy for those who fell into the trap
Anthony Gutierrez
I've talked my way out of requirements before. My advisor to nix any of them, he just had to sign off on it. One removed a humanities course for me, and one removed what was essentially a measurement course (which he taught), as I was already familiar with some of the content.
Jackson Flores
This is truth.
I personally know multiple lineman working for the big power companies making, STARTING out, $90,000 USD annual and easily make $110,000 to $120,000 USD annually with overtime in their first year. $200k and up is possible as you move up in the field.
This is in California, but the high pay holds strong pretty much across the US.
Of course, being a lineman is hard, dangerous work that require brains and brawn. Thus, it is 90pct White Men doing it.
Adrian Wood
I'm surprised you're learning this just now OP but yes, higher education is a huge scam. Many people know this but get suckered anyway because they need that "piece of paper" to get their dream job.
Parker Carter
We need to break the trap and raise awareness, in the long term fix our colleges. Like I said earlier I learned more in community college than in the four year institution, which is also over double the price. Education is not what it used to be
Adam Morris
I'd have to disagree there. High school blew smoke up my ass with my writing - it was super flowery with almost no substance, but I got As every time. College came along and forced me to be more concise or else get shit grades.
Wouldn't ever major in English but the writing classes really did help - in the end, that's way more useful to the layman than calculus. I was a CS major and math minor - my math classes were good for developing logic skills, but I haven't touched anything from them since.
Parker Price
I'm pretty sure that's the case...part of the standard set for every higher educated American..probably a concept now abused by universities like you claim
Lincoln Nelson
English does come in handy for improving formal communication, and should be taught alongside Law and other humanities degrees, Calculus is more useless than English.
Christian Ortiz
>Precalc is hard What a fucking pussy
Leo Garcia
$50 and hour by me my dude
Luis Ward
Sounds like you're stupid so you're getting a shit humanities degree. IF you can't pass a STEM class then you're probably not even fucking dedicated enough to read a book in the first place.
Here our universities don't do that, that really fucking sucks
Brandon Smith
Also everyone that says college is a scam is fucking retarded, enjoy your burger flipper manual labor job, pleb
Ryder Bailey
you used to have to translate virgil (latin) on sight as part of the entrance exam
Aiden Moore
At my previous uni it was the other way around, lower the standards so that everyone passes and gets to their degree.
> higher "success rate" of passing = higher position in the league tables > kicking student out first year compared to letting them finish is 1 year of student fees vs 3
The uni I was at was in the top 10 of the UK league tables, how did I know?
They made sure to tell us with giant billboards that it was so
Dominic Jenkins
>the real pass rate is even lower, around the 10% area. Educational institutions should probably stop all those black scholarships for handegg and apehoop then, and go back to focusing on shit like reading and writing.
Parker Ross
same as lawyer or any other highly skilled position. but not everyone wants to be those things and would rather not be 80 k in debt.
Asher Ramirez
I knew all the pre-reqs for my accounting degree before I even registered. When going through college you need to be SMART about it. To avoid bullshit classes that have high failure rates I sat down and looked at the course catalog to see which classes would satisfy the requirements. If you are going into a non-STEM major and wind up taking GPA sinkers like psychology, physics, chemistry, or some other advanced class you are STUPID!
My accounting degree required two science classes, one with a lab. Know what my two science classes were? Biology and environmental science, both of which I took in high school and passed easily at my community college. Math was a bit trickier, I needed to take calculus - both pre-calc and calc I skirted by with a final grade in the low 70s.
As long as you aren’t some fuckhead idiot who blindly jumps into stupid shit like a chemistry class you’ll be fine. In all honesty, I don’t mind pre-req classes at all (I paid $250/semester after scholarships at community college where I took these classes), they get you transitioned into college and create study habits,
Ayden Harris
>she >Why do I need Chem, Math, History? Because you're a fucking useless retard and colleges know they can scam your dumb ass, even when they tell you its a scam right to your face. Idiot.
You're a faggot liberal liar. You would never take a pre rec in microbiology. The very fact that you even suggested that tells me you're a fucking retarded nigger. They make you take writing courses so you know how to fucking write a paper, and general math so they know you're not a malfunctioning nigger.
Yes, they do make you attend shit that breaches your comfort zone, but they will fucking never make you attend a micro bio course for some bullshit degree, unless you choose it as an elective. In fact, you can't even take a 300 level course, without first taking 200 level gen bio.
Fuck off you fucking kike nigger jew, people on Jow Forums like me are currently in med school and also researchers. You're political attempt to dumb down whites and turn them into white trash won't work. Genetics hold the key, you fucking faggots!
Isaac Fisher
Mate accounting is easy to get a good paying job in. Did your school not have a good recruiting scene or something?
Lots of people at my school, albeit which is small, either have jobs lined up in public/private or are going the masters route and getting their CPA license out of the way. I’m doing the latter, in a few years I’ll be raking in the cash (six figs).
Caleb Ward
If you think about it, the pass rate doesn't matter. Most first year courses are large lecture halls with huge class sizes. They're usually done by one instructor and multiple labs run that are run by other students. Much cheaper to do than the specialized courses which require smaller sizes or more specialized equipment etc.
Add in the other nickel and dime expenses found in first year, the money made from anybody living on campus or using the facilities, buying books, supplies, signing up for credits cards and insurance often facilitated by the university and you have a pretty lucrative business plan.
Colton Gutierrez
>Take this from someone who actually knows the real purpose of human civilization. OK, what's the real purpose then?
Thats what high school is for. That place you have to go to in order to get into a good college in the first place.
Julian Davis
You retarded fucking liar.
Mason Stewart
I don't see what the big deal is. Chemistry, physics, calculus, etc. are all easy. Sounds like brainlet cope to me.
Luke Powell
What the fuck? All my courses were very relevant to my degree Though maybe because it's in STEM which already takes long enough
Joseph Moore
>Chemistry PhD candidate >write literally all the time >use oral presentation skills I developed mostly in pre requisite courses literally all the time >use applied math and physics concepts all the time >WTF MAAN THE SYSTEM IS JUST TRYING TO TAKE MY MONEY MAAAAAN FUCK SCHOOL ITS JUST A BUSINESS MODEL MAAAN!
Pffffft
>I could be making $22/hr right now
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA OH NO NO NO NO NO If you think $22/hr is the wage you so desperately need to support your white ethnostate family of 5, think again.
Don't blame the schools for this. The culprit is the government. In order to be eligible for FAFSA they require that you take certain courses. That's all it is. Why? Because they're making money on you. The school is making money on you too. Everybody is screwing you so you go tens of thousands of dollars into debt which you cannot discharge in bankruptcy.
Kayden Walker
Everything we're a part of is in the name of "bigger" business. Just like big business here on Earth, there are humongous "companies" (some in the form of entire species) that expand across the universe who work for even larger "companies" that expand into different dimensions. The whole structure is in the form of a pyramid where the very few at the top have it successful while everyone towards the bottom are struggling to get to the top. This structure is present throughout existence and it can even be said that this structure is the foundation of our universe. This structure is what religion labels as "Satan".
As for us, we're just a product manufactured by some company for some client(s)/customer(s). But just like all products within our world, this product (us) is not 100% satisfactory so big changes are underway to improve the product, or just disband it all together. I'm hoping for the latter.
Colleges are a scam, they hold your future to ransom by making you take unnecessary courses.
Jason Gutierrez
theres so much student aid available that this is a moot point. you should be busy applying your ass off for scholarships and grants. you can essentially get paid to go to college even as a white man.
the key is reduced pool of competition. start at high school with grants available to your school or county. Never do national stuff its a complete waste of time. in college, scour through every available state and county grant and apply for them even if you don't meet the requirement. often times they overlook that shit since there is no real way to check. Again, avoid national shit its a waste of time.
Either way, I was getting paid 3k a semester (5k my first semester) as a white guy with all my tuition/rent/ paid off.
boomers were not getting paid to go to college I can promise you that
grad school is a different story tho. so if you're going to pursue it, make sure its for a viable degree. I'm doing medicine and there is jack shit available.
its not some super secret scheme you autist its a classical education. whether or not thats a racket is up for debate
Jack Russell
What a shit job. >debt >earn decently >get into workforce later >still sometimes hard jobs anyway >debt is calculated based on earning potential Wew. You want the big Jew to take your shekels basically. Being a electrical engineer or even a shitty plumber is better. You can make bank in short periods of time with plenty of time inbetween doing odd jobs waiting for big work chilling or going hard all the time with, again, those major projects going on. Plumbers are like easy mode because they can work in the city an' sheet. I'd rather be an electrical engineer though and work up into a nice skilled position or higher salary.
>Chemistry Okay retard.
Have fun being told by the universe Jew what you can and can't do!
Alexander Foster
What the other guy said is right. $22/hr is about $50 in relative buying power, at least in Perth suburbs, the only point of reference I have.
Benjamin Ramirez
tldr schools force you to take unnecessary classes like (example English) for you to get a degree (example Physics)
Justin Nguyen
>Electrician
It's really not that glorified as everyone seems to make here, sure some linemen make bank in certain states and some union guys do pretty well. I live in a non union state and the pay is pretty shit. You'll probably be the only white person on the job site because it's mostly mundane shit like bending like and pulling wire all day. Service guys tend to do a little better but they have some really shit jobs as well. The only way to go is open you own business but, that's with anything you could probably make more reselling dildos and not have to go through all the (((licensing))).
Isaac Davis
This would never work in Australia. We aren't dumb Student Debt cucks, our debt is reasonable. If you want to 'earn' money from education then you shank the centrelink jew manager for his shekels. (metaphor)
Seriously guys. I'm considering dropping out of high-school instead of doing it next year. I already technically dropped out by doing a half-year, technically speaking I have prolonged the centrelinks jew bond to my soul, I have used him to my benefit in this capacity, but either I do a serious full year this time, or I dropout for good instead of wasting even more of my time.
These college fags are just coping r-right? Hehe... uh
>You really want a bunch of engineers that can’t write?
Any decent science or engineering degree will involve training in scientific writing, especially when it comes to publications (where you'll get shat on if your write ups are not up to par for a journal), and any decent science or engineering student will have the intelligence to learn proper expression and grammar naturally and effortlessly. You don't even learn to write or to express yourself well in fucking arts and humanities classes. The gall to think these courses actually have something unique and useful to teach...
Carson Ward
Had to take physics humanities math etc for a 2 year electrical degree. There is no to avoid the prerequisite jew.
Nolan Price
What about the pipefitter Jew? Is that a meme too? Huh kike?!?
>our debt is reasonable >checks mortgages Sure pal
Grayson Morgan
Pipe fitters get peanuts here too, they figured out it's not hard to teach a dumb spic the mechanics of a pipe wrench. Usually one boomer gets like $50/hr to be accountable for them and everyone else is $20 and under.
Isaac Johnson
>I'm considering dropping out of high-school this is an 18+ site
