There was always social isolation in one form or another. Yes there is a lot of atomization because everyone interacts in front of a screen but I also think everything gets magnified because of how easy it is to hear about stupid shit happening across the country or world.

Im very VERY fortunate to work a job where I work overseas on a rotational basis for only 6 months out of the year. The other half of the year I have off is spent mostly overseas as well in places like Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe where quality of life is high and my dollar can go a lot further during my time off. For one month out of the year though I am in the mainland US (mostly Texas) and holy fucking hell if I ever had to move back here fulltime I honestly think I would kill myself. Ive been around the world quite a bit and very few places are as depressing, isolating and not to mention fucking BORING as America, California, NYC, Florida, Texas, doesnt fucking matter compared to almost anywhere else on the developed planet its all shit and completely toxic. If you spend any significant time overseas at all it is very hard to adjust back to the US. Ill be heading out of here again in January and am looking to cut loose what little I have remaining here once and for all finally at the end of next year and never look back. This country is absolute hell on Earth and Im convinced that the only people who think otherwise are those who have never been anywhere else.
