It's not that I think that that interpretation of the myth is wrong. It's that I believe there to be so much more he could be talking about as well. I believe that myths operate on multiple levels simultaneously: spiritual, physical, mental, archetypal, etc... They are like onions that you have to keep peeling back to reveal their true depths. And I've recently come to realize that one of the most important roles of mythology is to connect the racial collective conscious with certain concepts and values (etc. courage, strength, beauty, etc.).
