It does have an atmosphere. It's just 100 times less thick than Earth's own atmosphere. But it's enough to create dust storms and occlude literally the entire planet for months, so that doesn't mean it's nothing.

Do you mean Rayleigh scattering? Yes this is true. However, the sky color is primarily caused by fine dust particles so reds/pinks tend to predominate.

If you want to replicate this yourself, go find a raw mars image from NASA (the original red ones) then load it into photoshop and apply 'Auto Color' twice (ctrl+shift+b)
