Not the guy you're replying to, but his analogy isn't even that bad. It doesn't work as a justification because looting is theft even if the door's unlocked and you know someone else is going to do it if you don't.

The comparison has merit in that marriage is a contract, and her fucking around means she's breaking it. One exception would be if the guy was on board with it and they had an "open" marriage, but her telling the OP that they are taking a "break" does not sound believable. She may have told her husband that, but if he didn't sign off on it, it's still invalid.

So the fact that she and her husband are both at fault for something justifies a shitty behavior on OP's part? Just because potentially someone could do it even if OP doesn't?
The whole point is "is it a matter of principle or are we just trying to make something inherently wrong look less bad?"

OP here, I think user hit the nail on the head with this one. Not gonna tell the husband as I don't want to get on her shit list (I live in her dept's area).
