I see torture as more moral than capital punishment. Although, much like violence, it depends on how and why. Torture is just a tool.
Torture can be a deterrent for others in the same camp as the offender. Pedos and traitors should be flayed alive, and publicly.

The evidence shows this to be false. The severity of punitive measures has no statistical effect on the likelihood of someone committing a crime.
The only reason to torture someone is because you enjoy inflicting pain - or you want to break their mind, which is the same thing really.

A civilized man in a civilized country should never for a second considers torture as a useful way to achieve anything. This is barbaric, degenerate, and going in the exact opposite direction as what the Western civilization is trying to achieve for the past centuries.
That said, I'm all for capital punishment, because I also believe that some people are simply too dangerous for society (pedos & psychos) with no way to 'rehabilitate' them. A healthy justice should work like a healthy immune system by getting rid of the dangerous elements that can damage the whole society / body. And a healthy immune system is not trying to inflict the maximum amount of pain to a cancerous cell, it's trying to eliminate the threat in the most effective way.

All evidence shows that the severity of a threat makes no difference to the likelihood of committing a crime. What makes a difference is the likelihood of getting caught.
For example

This is why people traffic drugs to places that have the death penalty for drug trafficking. They know that the apprehension rate is low.

There are many reasons to torture. There's a real case where a guy stole a car and there was an infant in the car. He left the car somewhere and was caught by police. They knew they had the right guy, but he wouldn't tell them where the car, and the infant, were. They were afraid the car would get hot and the infant would die, so the cops kicked the shit out of the guy until he told them where the car was. If you would've let the child die in that situation or a similar one then you're a terrible person.
Torture can be used effectively in interrogation any time when you can cheaply verify the information you are told. For example, if I'm trying to get the encryption key to your hard drive and I tell you that I'll put in whatever key you tell me to try, but every time I get it wrong I'm putting a drill through your hand, you'll probably tell me the real key very quickly.
