Either you use Linux, then you can encrypt files and the entire hard drive natively or when you use Windows, you can download VeraCrypt. I really wouldn't upload anything to google that can get you in trouble, google will just give them access. Any account you make can be liked to you unless you use VPN or Tor.

I don't really use cloud services, I don't know if any of them would refuse to give European governments access, but you would have multiple options to keep them away from it.

The downside is that you would have to download the whole file every time and decrypt it on your computer to access the content.

>3. Don't use cloud services (recommended option)
Just buy an external hard drive or a large USB stick, depending on how much storage you need, fully encrypt them and just like that you have a secure and portable way to access your file when ever you want. If you are afraid that the storage device breaks and you loose all your stuff, you can combine it with option 2, that way, the downside of always having to download the whole encrypted file isn't as bad because it's only used as a backup anyway.

Just look up how to encrypt stuff with Linux, but VeraCrypt is probably easier if you never worked with the terminal. Use AES for the encryption, it's fast and secure. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Encryption_Standard

That's a linux distro that runs from a cd/usb stick and you boot the computer from it. Then it makes all connections to the internet through the tor network and it only runs on RAM, nothing is left behind on the harddrive of the device. It's something you don't use for daily tasks though, it's kind of: boot it, do the secret stuff, remove it, leaving no traces behind.

The issue with Tails though is that it has everything on the same system, if somebody manages to infect you with a virus, you're fucked. Quibes has everything compartmentalized in little virtual machines that you can control, give different rights to and burn them down without leaving anything behind so if you get a virus on one of them, just burn down the vm and you're good. It's not just a linux distro like Tails or Whonix, you can run other operating system inside of it. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it seems very interesting.
