Appeal was always the plan. The jury and judge were both highly prejudice. Irrelevant shit was submitted to evidence and he was tried too close to the place where it happened meaning no impartial jury. Not to mention the crime was murder in the 1st degree which means it has to be premeditated and targeted, which it blatantly wasn't.
His lawyer likely told him this would happen and assured him he'd get off free if he took his lumps now and waited for the appeal, which is better than a fair trial in which he probably still would have got manslaughter.

Innocent because Antigua attacked his car, it was clearly damaged, and the dumb fucks were obstructing the road. He feared for his life and sped up, everyone moved out of the way safely, however he hit a car (couldn't see it because of the retards in the road), that car hit another car, which crushed some obese roastie.
He's been charged with 1st degree murder which would literally mean he went to the rally solely with the intent to murder the specific person he killed. That's just absurd. At worst it was manslaughter. He didn't mean to kill anyone but it happened due to recklessness.
The judge allowed completely irrelevant evidence to be submitted like the fact he once sent a picture of Hitler to someone. The trial took place near Charlottesville which means the jury all knew about the case and were prejudice against him.
As mentioned above, this was likely what his lawyer intended because you can't be tried for the same crime twice. If the appeal goes through he'll be completely free. Whereas if they'd made a fuss and demanded a fair trial he would still have gone to jail for a lesser crime.
