I think it depends strongly on tax policy. Trump is obviously running on cutting taxes, if the Dem candidate runs on raising them then the suburbs will swing in his favor. Workers are already going his way. No Hillary or Obama means weaker nog turnout.

A Dem could conceivably pretend to run on "lower middle class taxes" but the question is where they make up the budget shortfall- keep in mind a lot of business owners are upper middle class, so if Dems say "tax the businesses" they will still force business owners to turn out to support Trump in a way they may not have done so in 2016.
