What happened is corrupt Gov't officials realized they held the power in the relationship. The mafia *NEEDED* corrupt officials in order to survive.

That was one of the reasons the FBI was created, along with the IRS, and then later the CIA. To make sure the FED (((agenda))) went forward. And it is only natural that "positive fronts" were stapled over these entities, to make them shine before the public while their crimes went unchallenged. Good point about the Mafias.
