Jow Forums has been shitty for at least a decade now. Facebook and Google have always been shitty, people are just starting to notice now. Reddit's design was flawed from the start. Youtube is still kind of good if you go to the weird parts, but they're increasingly censoring people and pushing garbage videos.
It's all predictable and every new form of media goes through this. The good news is that there will eventually be something new, and there are still hidden dark corners of the internet if you look hard enough. IRC channels, small independent discussion boards and obscure hobby/conspiracy websites lovingly crafted in HTML by crazy people still exist if you look for them.

These days it's such a "utility" that services and games will often default to using a facebook or google login instead of creating an account. Phones come with the app preloaded. Bands and music venues sometimes use facebook and twitter exclusively to promote their gigs or give news to fans. Companies trade likes and follows for chance at free shit. Even girls my age give me funny looks when I say I don't have a facebook account. There is TONS of pressure to use it, and signing up is so trivial. The vast majority of 13 year olds simply aren't equipped to stand up to that kind of assault.
