No, this isn't true. Once upon a time there was a tendency for Asians to look up to white westerners and aspire to be like them. Now, mostly, this has passed and Asians see the growth in the future of their own economies and culture.

There are still women who will travel away to work or marry to send money home to support the extended family. Depending on the guy she may even grow to love him, but Eastern culture uses marriage as a tool to create and commit to social and business contracts. So although she may be eager to get married it's likely the pressure and stress of marrying "someone undesireable" will make her bitter.

There's a lot of successful western man-asian woman marriages and in those the woman falls in love with the lifestyle and accepts the guy is the ticket to that happiness. So she loves the marriage because of what it brings, not because of her partner. This is subtle and poorly understood by westerners who palce emotional fulfillment above practical committment and unable to understand that if you asked the woman "are you happy being married to user?" why she would say "yes, very happy" but if you asked "do you love user?" she would say "No".

Gifts are very important in Asia. The poem means nothing. Only tangible goods have value. Art is a hobby (and poetry as a concept isn't really understood at all).
