Should I ditch college and become an electrician or go to college and be a civil engineer? I want to make money doing something I like but at the same don't want to waste all my time in education. I don't want to be a poor broken faggot. Please help.

Do whichever you think you would genuinely enjoy more
>I want to make money doing something I like
So which one do you like?
Wow thanks for that great contribution...NOT!
But anyway OP: definitely become and electrician. Civil engineers are everywhere and they end up working at ihop or some shit.
Electricians however are Chads. As time goes on we're becoming more and more dependent on electronics on in our lives and let's face it most people are fucking stupid and would rather pay someone like you to do it for them than learn themselves.
A good skill to pick up is wiring home theater sound systems
Can't go wrong learning a trade. If you're doing it for the rest of your life though, join a union. Sparkies also supposedly pay well too, but it is dangerous. Electricity can fuck you up in a lot of fun and exciting ways, and it isn't to be taken lightly. If you aren't a retard though and you follow the safety regulations you'll be fine. Also, for trades like electricians, carpenters, construction workers, etc, be prepared to travel long distances.

Just got my OSHA 30 certificate today
I recommend you do the Myers Briggs personality test to at least know what careers you would be great at and construct a path around a specific one.

Education can be a boon but most degrees are pitfalls. If you want to earn a lot, I recommend an MBA and to grab a side-specialty with it since middle managers make tons of money doing fuckall. Otherwise, you can either specialize in a rare skill (PHP programming) or get into a monopolized field. In a neighbouring town there is only 1 fencer. So he makes millions a year erecting fences.
As a lady with a Masters degree who married an apprentice plumber without a degree years back, I am tempted to say TRADE ROUTE. If you pay your dues, work smarter AND harder, build contacts and endorsements along the way and have the ambition, you can be comfortably self-employed in 10 years and on track to make millions in early retirement, while getting buff, running your own show and not racking up any student debt. This is coming from a woman, but I've seen this be done first hand... from $11 an hour to sky's the limit in 10 years.
Taking the electrician trade is definitely the best route to make money these day.
As a bonus, in the event of a post-apocalyptic scenario your essential skill will give a reason for any community that enslaved you to keep feeding you their priceless food supply.
If you learn a trade just to make money you're going to hate your shit job and want to kill yourself. The trade meme is just a glorified version of working at McDonalds.
Unless you're genuinely autistic for plumbing pipes or car engines or electrical wiring and that kind fo stuff makes you happy - then go for it. The money is just an added bonus.
>implying people won't need someone to lend and manage their money in the apocalypse
INTP, what do?
So I was right? College really is a scam unless it's specific desired fields with extensive training like law or medicine?
Hello?
>Should I ditch college
No
>become an electrician
No
>be a civil engineer
Sure. Civ Eng is projected to grow plus your skills are transferable across the globe if the job market shits out in the US.
>don't want to waste all my time in education
You're a teen or in your 20s. You have plenty of life to live.
Take the time to get the most out of higher education.
Most things that are wirth doing take time and effort. 4 years of university is not that long for the rewards you'll get.
>I don't want to be a poor broken faggot
>I want to make money doing something
You'll shit the bed in college and anything you do if you're overly concerned with money. It's not a sustainable motivation.
If I was you, I'd go to uni for civ engineering and take electives across many subjects. Who knows what you'll find.
How fucking retarded are you? Its only glorified mcdonalds if you`re a laborer with no actual skills. Better than being some debtfag who has skills in an oversaturated market and 1/3 chance of it not even being related to your career.
>"no money"
>be me
>18
>6 months out of school
>moving out into a recently built apartment
>isnt shared
>10 minute walk from train station
>30 minutes to sydney CBD
>still have enough to save and spend $200 each week.
>$25 an hour as a first year apprentice
>looking at least $40 an hour in another 3 years
>no debt
almost feel bad for collegecucks
What $25 an hour? What trade??
Any good trades for women that would have similar outcomes?
He works in Australia, so $25/hr is more like $12-$14/hr in most other countries.
If you want to work a hard manual labor job then learn go to a trade school. If you want a comfy desk job then get a bachelors degree in IT.
If you feel motivated to study and finish school take the civ.eng path any day of the week. It will add a lot to your life besides a piece of paper. Trade jobs are gonna be open for you 40+ years ahead while the chance to study a high end education like civ is harder when you're older with family etc.
So far this thread is peeking my interest I am kind of in the same boat. I will read over some stuff and see if I have any questions.
seems like some stuff could be helpful here.
Indeed.
Interesting.
I hear a lot of guys that go into engineering degree but then get shit out of luck.
