My family left me sitting the most annoying, shitty dog of all time. He barks all the time, he shits and pees all over the floor despite being let out three times a day, he runs from people (they thought it would be a nice idea to adopt a dog from shelter). He was with us for years now, and i have no bit of sympathy for him. I was sitting him before, but usually at least one of the other dogs was around. This time it's only two of us, and the literal hell broke out.
That fucking thing won't. Stop. Howling. He's howling all day, all night, if he ever stops it's when i got to kitchen (cuz he hopes to get something) or when he naps. I'm insomniac. I have trouble falling asleep, i wake up easily, and if i get waken up i can forget of falling asleep withing next few hours. When that fucking thing starts howling it wakes me up and fucks up my sleep. I have a work, i can't keep up for a week sleeping 3h per night.
I tried locking it away in a room (only made it worse, and added the scratching sound as it tried to get out), using earplugs (he's so loud he goes trough them) and being nice to that fucker, but nothing is working. There's noone who could pick this dog up from me.
I absolutely HATE dogs, so i am this close from using a solution which would pass as an animal abuse (such as tying him up for the night or literally just using ducktape to tape it's mouth shut. I am diagnosed with borderline disorder and the dog may end up seriously injured. I hold no ill will towards it, however another sleepless night may push me over the line. It's a serious matter, because the animal can get hurt and i don't want that).
If you like dogs and feel any sympathy for this shitrat then please give me advice because this dog wil suffer.
Why don’t you bring the dog to your room and cuddle him? He won’t howl then.
Dogs howl when they are lonley

Okay since it actually made me sound like a sociopath let me straighten things
Regardless of how much i hate this dog, i also hate animal abuse. I don't want it to get hurt, however i have no control whatsoever over my violent impules, and that's why im asking you for help - to avoid the dog getting hurt.

This dog won't let me even pet him, not to mention coddling, and that is if i could stand the stench, because this dog smells pretty awful. I can catch him to put a collar and leash on him, but no way he would stay around me to cuddle - in fact he only seems to tolerate my sister in terms of petting.

Pet him

Give him the opportunity to earn your trust. Take him on walks, play with him. You know, dogs can sense other people’s feelings. So your hatred to him probably stresses him out. Try to be kind to him.
What type of dog is he? Post his picture
Grayson Cook
And if i forced him to let me pet him he stays numb, petrified from fear. This dog must have been hit by his previous owners, but no matter how bad i feel for him, it doesn't change the fact that i need to be able to sleep.
Dominic Nguyen
A common shitrat. This pic is a couple years old, but he hasnt changed much since then.
I take him on walks, but he doesn't react to any attempts at playing, hes afraid of things being thrown, and he won't ever play like normal dogs do, at least not with me. I tried talking to him and being nice, like the nicest i've ever been to a dog, because it's also heartbreaking to hear a dog howl all the time, but he doesn't care, in fact it feels like it made things worse.
He looks lonley, user. Think about it. He’s not much different from many anons here. He may have a depressing story and some anxiety issues. But he’s lonley and wants to be loved. That’s all he wants. You should try to earn his trust. Be his friend.

Easier said than done, besides i need to sleep now, not in 4 years when he finally accepts me as his best friends.
Easton Bailey
go find him right now, give him a treat, and let him smell your hand (signals trust). Then give him a nice soft pat on the head and lay down on the floor next to him and take a nap.
Julian Rogers
he just grabs the food and runs away with it to hide under a bed. he always does that, so it's not as if he particularly hates me though.
I do like 8/10 out of those things, however i don't usually allow him to sleep where i sleep (or any other animal, because of how easily i wake up i always sleep with doors closed). I don't yell at him, i don't force myself onto him, but i'm always talking to him when he actually comes to me. He always run from any attempt of touch.
As for doing what the dog likes to do, it's probably sitting under the bed or eating enormous amounts of food. I never saw him playing or anything.

>He barks all the time, he shits and pees all over the floor despite being let out three times a day, he runs from people (they thought it would be a nice idea to adopt a dog from shelter).
He barks because he's nervous and doesn't want to be left alone, he pisses all over the floor because he needs to be let out more than just three times a day and the fact that he's from a shelter has nothing to do with it. All the dogs I've ever had were from shelters and they were great dogs. There's loads of dogs that come from breeders and are absolute shits.
>I tried locking it away in a room (only made it worse
Yup. You gotta do the opposite. Keep it with you at all times, have him sleep in the same room as you, take it out more than three times a day and go outside with him.
Like said, he's not any different from many anons or even yourself. Dogs are pack animals are even though it might be shitting its pants out of anxiety right now it still needs you to show him that everything is okay.

>He barks because he's nervous and doesn't want to be left alone He does that with people at home too. >he pisses all over the floor because he needs to be let out more than just three times a day We have a garden, where he's free to go out to at any time most of the day, outside of the walks and he still shits and pisses on the floor. >the fact that he's from a shelter has nothing to do with it We have two other dogs who weren't adopted, and instead lived with us since they're a puppy and they're both very quiet, obidient and well-behaved. > have him sleep in the same room as you I literally can't due to how bad my sleeping issues are. I wish i could have the pets sleep with me, but even the cats purring wake me up.
As for spending more time with him, and taking him out more, i can't. I have work. I'm not at home for long enough to take him for long walks, not to mention the fact i'm usually too exhausted for that after working my shift. It's even worse now that i barely sleep.
Josiah Moore
What's wrong with you people. Just give it away/put it down and get some sleep.
Luke Martin
God i wish. But my sister won't budge since he's her favourite, and mom won't traumatize her by doing that. And i got no right since i don't exactly own him.
Ethan Hill
Do you clean the shit and piss properly? Nature's on your side with this. Dogs like having a set bathroom. Usually if you lean it up fully and neutralise it with a bio detergent they don't associate the same spots to a bathroom.
Like seriously op that one's a simple one. That's how wolves train their Cubs not to shit in the den. They eat it and their mouth enzymes do the rest on the ground. Nature's on your side. It gets complicated with other shit but that one's as base instinct as it can get.
You literally can't clean if you have a problem with a dog shitting inside.
Jaxson Lopez
Oh and "three times a day"
Every four hours, 6 maximum. Plus walks.
>Locked up
If the dog is used to being free and you lock it up it'll scream and be noisy. If you then let the dog out, it learns that totally worked and will do it again.
Also that's why he howls all day. The owners probably shower it with attention every time he does it. To fix it you have to ignore it. Completely. It wants attention, and even nagative attention like yelling at it or hitting it will show it works. The owners really fucked up hard on that. The dog can at least learn it doesn't work on you.
My dogs (three) are good. But my gf has dumbass friends who scream and yell and pet the dogs and jump around when they come over.
So the dogs behave themselves around us and when strangers come they jump and bark and howl and scream because her damn friends taught them "when strangers come be fuck heads"
Ayden Butler
We clean it with bleach to kill any bacteria. but when he pisses over furniture, how well can we clean that? Bleach will destroy it, and softer stuff may not fully remove it.
Like i said, i let him out as often as i can, since even if i cant walk him, there's garden. But i can't get off my 10h shift to walk the dog, and i won't interrupt my sleep for it eaither, so the best i can do is morning, after work and before sleep, keeping the garden open in the meanwhile.
I'm going to ignore it then. I hate to admit, but this dog is damn smart, so it would make sense if it did it for attention (even if negative).
As for owners fucking up, he's also used to >eating human food >being very noisy when guests are at home >sleeping on furniture (he ruined our other two well-behaved dogs, because they felt jeallous of him doing that and they started doing that as well) >jumping on tables while people eat (how does one fuck up so badly?)
Ryder Carter
Do it the Chinese way and cook him in boiling water. He will stop barking, I promise.

that dog looks like a hyena lol

>here's a list of issues that are long term learned behaviors >oh yeah the main owners are shitty dog owners and he doesnt know me well >how do i fix this instantly
these are problems that require an entire change of routine and lifestyle of his main owner with a training regimen. that's the bottom line
and if they have had the dog for years, I can tell you this issues are certainly far more likely the result of your sister being a moron than the dog coming from a shelter. if your sister wont get her shit together, nothing will change. sorry.
Chase Hughes
those issues persist ever since we adopted the dog years ago, and despite everyone's hard work we failed to fix them - and our family had dogs since always. I'm not looking for a fix to everything, but if i can't prevent the dog from waking me up i'm most likely to hurt it, whether i want it or not.
As for my sister, she never really trained any of the dogs - it was my father's, and mine job. I managed to properly train the other two, but this one doesn't work like any other dog i knew, and i have no idea how to properly train him - besides, i lost the interest in dogs a couple years ago, so it's not like i want to train him, either, i'll be moving out soon anyway and it won't be my problem anymore, and i know that if i put any effort into this dog it's gonna go to waste anyway after everyone is back with the old rules that allow the dog to pee everywhere he wants without any consequences.
I just want him to let me sleep before i snap and hurt him.
Ian Hall
Ew, looks like my sister's gross mutt. I don't really have experience with shit dogs, the one i had practically trained herself. You're usually better off getting them as young as possible, so that you can instill good habits as it grows.
My sister's dog is a lot like yours, now that I think about it. They tossed him outside and he literally never shuts the fuck up. Doesn't matter what you do. That faggot will bark at air. I'd say you should invest in a muzzle. Just take it off during feeding time. I'd say get a nylon one, its more breathable, and it's not breakable/bendable like some of the basket ones.
Jose Carter
We didnt pick this one. It was during a very harsh winter when dogs were literally freezing in shelters. We took him to save his life and in exchange i get sleepless nights.
Yeah i may consider getting him a nuzzle - my sister will be most likely pissed but at least ill be able to sleep.
Alexander Smith
Get rid of it, no questions asked.
In the future, only adopt very young puppies. Shelter adoption dogs are the pet owning equivalent of raising another man's kids. I even volunteer at a shelter, and can say with confidence that I'd never wish to adopt one.

I had a buddy’s dog chow down on a wallet I accidentally left on his couch. There is only one way to deal with a bad pooch. Baseball bat or 12 gauge
Levi Adams
These two, combined, may solve your insomnia issue.
This is bizarre because this is what I was about to ask advice for myself. I board dogs regularly and make it clear no puppies, but people still lie about their dogs' age and this dog I've got in particular has destroyed by bathroom door.
The only part-time solution I've figured OP is to give it 1-2 grams of melatonin before I leave for longer than 3 hours. It doesn't stop the fuckbag from whining but at least it stops barking and destroying everything. Good luck.
Ethan Parker
a muzzle wont keep him quiet. he can still howl, whine, growl, etc. plus some dogs will freak out to the point of self traumatization and ripping out their nails and clawing at their eyes if theyre not used to them and leaving them on long term
plus user is an idiot. nylon and "soft" muzzles are used for bite prevention during short term procedures like vaccines or nail trims. basket muzzles are for bite prevention during things like walks. a muzzle does nothing for keeping them quiet.
