I am a young(ish) college professor, (31). I want to date college aged women more than I can tell you. I don't want to date any that I teach, that turns me off immediately. I've also been trying to pursue women from colleges I don't teach at. Still I'm afraid of what will happen when people find me out on a date with a 21 year old when I teach 18-22 year olds every day.
I have zero desire to date a woman in her 30's unless she has the same amount of success as me. It's shallow and it sucks but the truth in relationships is you have to offer something. Usually beauty or success. Almost all woman I've tried to date who are my age are single moms (I will NEVER even consider being with one) or ones with no ambition but are happy to live off my money.

Your biggest issue is not going to be the age gap but the culture one. More than you realize, you live in a bubble of highly educated, focused people (Definition of a PhD - someone who knows more than anyone else about a very little and less than everyone else about everything else) and probably can only successfully relate to others of your self-created "class."
If you must chase youth, look to grad students, preferably in fields other than yours
