What are some things that annoy the shit out of you when visiting a blog?

Asking for a friend.

If it doesn’t have any pictures of penises on it.

What if you‘re not in the mood for penises and want to read some boring shit instead?

I just need to know pitfalls to avoid. Like, no search bar or advertising. That kind of stuff.

this new fucking trend where the background is static and as you scroll the page the foreground covers the background and the background changes the more you scroll
Kinda like onewheel.com

autoplay videos

I‘m kind of a minimalistic person, so i‘m not even sure i‘ll include pictures unless relevant to the post. No danger for static backgrounds or auto play vid‘s. But thanks a lot for the input. That‘s exactly what i need.

Oh yeah, THAT is really annoying. Thanks for pointing it out.

Would you mind if the posts are straight to the point instead of those long ass, drawn out ones? I‘m not good at beating around the bush and it annoys me to read trough 1000 words till the thing i actually wanted to read about comes up.

Both are fine. Be sure to make liberal use of spacing and paragraphs. Also include pictures when it makes sense. Pictures make blogs fun!

Alright, noted. Thanks, i apprecciate it.
One more question: i‘d want to write in english, but it‘s not my first language and i‘ll probably write weird stuff. Is that a big issue?

Yes. People want good English when they're reading things.

Almost all blogs on the web are written by non-native English speakers. It's not a big deal. The way you've written here in this thread is perfectly understandable and far better than many dumb Americans. :)

Damn it. It‘s just so hard to know if your sentences are constructed weirdly. How could i learn this?

How would you not be in the mood for penises? What the fuck is wrong with you?

That‘s a relief, thanks user.
Should i stick to a narrow topic or be broader? It seem like narrow topic blogs dry out rather quickly. There‘s only so much you can say about one thing. I don‘t want this to turn into my dairy either, but i‘ve noticed that there‘s very little material out there for the topic i‘d want to write. I think it‘ll get repetitive and boring after about half a year, so i considered to add in some other topics. Would that water it down or bring some variety?

I haven‘t been talking about myself, i was talking about potential readers. Maybe i can sneak one in here and there.

Just make sure to tag and categorize your posts. That way your visitors will be able to browse older posts easily once you have built up a library of posts.

Also don't worry so much about this stuff, because you're going to keep tweaking and altering stuff about your blog as you keep going anyway.

I‘m a bit of an overthinker, so you‘re spot on. I should just get started and then work on what needs to be tweaked.

Thanks anons, you helped a lot!

>visiting a blog

Where else should i do this? I don‘t want to go on yt (too much hassle to make it look halfway decent) and i have zero clue about twitter, instagram and that stuff. Maybe you know a platform i don‘t know about?

Yeah but those are mostly garbage content mills that spam iterations of the same watered-down articles for affiliate ad revenue. People see through that.

High quality blogs are either written by native speakers or written by someone with exceptional, non-generic content that can shine through the esl wet blanket.

What would be exceptional, non-generic content?

I have no intentions to monetize my blog, i couldn‘t find one like the one i plan to make so i thought why not do it yourself.

It can be anything, it just has to stand out and serve a purpose, usually education, motivation, or entertainment, preferably all three.

Your content is high quality when you've had interesting life experiences to draw from, you have deep knowledge of niche subjects, you're a good storyteller, or you just have a unique voice/personality that people are drawn to. Try to do the opposite of what other people are doing. Basically be yourself, unless you're boring, then become more interesting and try again.

Liberal agendas.

Don't know don't care
Blogs are cancer

experience maybe, put a disclaimer that your not english first languige

- Using a default template without making any changes
- Anything on blogspot (I immediately assume they're low-quality)
- Tons of ads
- Not using a spam blocker or a "please turn off your adblocker to view"
- Reposting content from other blogs because they're too damn lazy to make their own content
- low quality images that are super pixelated
I got more, but these are the main things

Please post the rest, i‘m writing those down
