LOOOK AT HIS WALLS
The government is forced to build homes for the poor.
If they build fancy homes, then the rich will stop working and fly away to other countries where they can be snobby again.
people actually believe this.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
*inhales*
AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAHHHAHHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
hey straya, arent the homes there the same? Im following a channel on yt from a NZ carpenter and in NZ its the same crap, Ive noticed that in Straya they use steel roof which are pretty good but is framing and lousy foundation the same?
>seriosuly, Im an apple pie big tits muscle car man and I love America, but why do you build houses out of fake wood? That's extremely cheap construction.
Enjoy your moldy walls in Croatia. Nice cherry picking, that's compressed OSB shit board, fuck knows what this building is anyway. Some of us have brick exterior and then cinder block here in the US Kresho.
Mold, like in your houses where the solid walls don't breath, ask yourself what that smell is in your residence.
it's mostly glue and the builders don't even
put down tarps when it rains which destroys
the wood.
>Enjoy your moldy walls in Croatia.
They really arent that common, not even in older houses, OSB should be banned for civil buildings
>They really arent that common, not even in older houses, OSB should be banned for civil buildings
I've been there, I have a house with the same type of interior and exterior walls in another European country, you know what the fuck I'm talking about as every house has that distinct smell. Pain in the ass to get those walls to breath or seal them correctly and have the moisture exhaust outwards, you probably don't even notice the smell and think it's just paint and the wall chipping away on its own.
Not political or current events.
I build houses for a living. Or used to. I’m a professional carpenter now. More money in tearing down walls and rebuilding them for people with more money than sense.
Apparently, from your flag, you’re more about pic related?
IMPRESSIVE WATERMELONIUM INFUSED HYPER PLYWOOD 1000 TIMES STRONGER THAN IMPERIALIST CHINESE CONCRETE!
CHERRYPICKING DELETE
They have some nice neo-classic type houses in Croatia, thing is the walls stop breathing, solid walls, solid exteriors, then the mold kicks in.
>OSB should be banned for civil buildings
I agree buddy, but fuck knows what mickey mouse construction this is using this shit board. Is it a McMansion or a fuckin commercial space? For a commercial space I can understand. Building a new home in Nassau Count, NY I didn't put that shit in, but it is a wood frame house, but built the right way. I could just imagine how that stuff turns in a short while if moisture gets to it, just imagine the warping in a short period of time alone. Shitty construction, not built to last at all, doesn't look like a nice tight sturdy construction, that's why high winds come through some areas and take everything away in the US.
concrete foundation and steel beams is the structure of that. Wood is just for the cheap ass siding to stick too.
Happens here if you work on ancient houses in the south. Ever been to Louisiana? It smells like piss and mold for the same reasons. Eurotards can’t understand climate because they all live in the same one.
>Happens here if you work on ancient houses in the south. Ever been to Louisiana? It smells like piss and mold for the same reasons. Eurotards can’t understand climate because they all live in the same one.
Here in NYC idiots wreck their brownstones all the time, they fill their plaster walls with spray foam thinking they'll insulate the place, then the walls start cracking, paint pealing and mold kicks in. It's funny how the spray foam companies don't warn them or take some precautions to combat this.
You'd think after the first or second deadly hurricanes that hit America every year we'd learn to stop building homes out of sawdust and glue.
Lol. I’m Midwest fly over country now. Half my work is;
>My renter trashed one of my rentals by letting animals piss all over it.
So many ways to fix that, but usually you rip all the flooring up and re-lay it. Can you imagine the stench of living in some stuffy bloc apartment where that had happened? Concrete hold enzymes that produce smell. The concrete porch I have outside that my dogs piss on, needs enzymatic cleaners pushed through a power washer twice a year not to stink.
Some Poles wrecked part of a over hundred year old sandstone/brick house with inner wood framing many years ago I live in currently.
They used foam instead of clay and concrete instead of lime mortar. Fucking animals.
Believe it or not, we do sandstone housing here. A place that’s in the works for me, was sandblasted out of a mountain of sandstone. In the living areas they attached pressure treated 2x4, an have drywall. There’s lots more about it that’s boring to anyone who isn’t ito building. I wished I saved pictures but I thought only /diy/ would care.

God damn, they should put in half ass wall to wall carpet, and rubber carpet padding if possible, or maybe the piss would soak through rubber padding? Heh, I bet the rentor didn't get their security deposit back! ha ha ha
>Some Poles wrecked part of a over hundred year old sandstone/brick house with inner wood framing many years ago I live in currently.

It's sad man, probably costs way too much money to rebuild/renovate the right way, so they half-ass it or have no clue what they're doing and then that happens. It's pretty complicated when you start working on these old materials, old timers sometimes knew what they were doing, and then along comes someone that doesn't know a damn thing about how houses breath or don't breath, then it all goes to hell. It's no that complicated when you sit and figure it all out how it has to be done correctly, kind of sad.
You know what pisses me off? All those old nice mason work houses in Detroit, what a damn shame. Barely anyone can afford that type of outside mason work nowadays, and they were left to decay and fall apart.
>I've been there, I have a house with the same type of interior and exterior walls in another European country, you know what the fuck I'm talking about as every house has that distinct smell.
You were probably in some older houses, Im in a newer and has 0 problems with moisture, what place have you stayed? or was it an old one that had insulation put on later? similar to pic rel?
>They have some nice neo-classic type houses in Croatia, thing is the walls stop breathing
probably due to Tyvek wraps in newer houses?
>Here in NYC idiots wreck their brownstones all the time, they fill their plaster walls with spray
spray foam is horrible, it turns to dust and can create problems to health, moiusture problems in walls aside.
You never get a security deposit back.
It was wall to wall carpet. BUT it soaks through everything. Into the flooring. You can smell piss in the sawdust as you cut it out. You need Vic’s and a dust mask not to puke. It’s similar to pissing on an enclosed camp fire, I’d imagine.
I just don’t understand if years of dirty people lived inside of a concrete block before you, how could you fix the smell? I imagine all of their housing still smells of previous occupants. Piss, old people, stale smoke, bad cooking, an occasional fire that lingers for years.
At least if something here is unsanitary or unsafe, it’s cost effective to rebuild. Think about all the ancient wiring, encased in concrete? Nothing is upgradable.
Both styles have their uses, but I love wood. I should take more pictures of some of the amazing things I’ve done building with wood.
Fine craftsmanship left in desrepair breaks my heart. It’s probably why I’m paid a living wage and can always find work.
Taking things apart that some one else did poorly, and putting them back together with love and care helps me understand life better. I enjoy my work and wouldn’t be happy living in some cement bloc apartment. If I want to build an extra room on my house to air bnb it, I have the knowledge, experience and tools. (Just not the spare thousands it would cost). I’ve done commercial remodel of prefab concrete. It’s super expensive. It’s in the hundred(s) thousand(s) dollars range.
>probably costs way too much money to rebuild/renovate the right way
Money is not even the problem. It's way faster to put up drywall, wallpaper and tiles. Not many people can work with the traditional materials and tend to hire cheap and fast labor which results in rotting houses.
I already bought a ton of clay and about hundred kilograms of lime. Currently I remove all the tiles, floor screed and drywalls and found about 70~80 year old wallpapers. Also there are many wooden beams are missing. It's a wonder that everything still holds together. Gimme a year or two and it will be like new.
I believe it and I saw it. It's so sad to see that many of these just fall into ruins in the ghettos.
The cost of building...
That's the end of the argument.
We can build 50 mcmansions that last 50 years for the price of 1 commie block building.
We have the freedom to create the living spaces we want for extremely cheap and rent them out to the underclass.
>Taking things apart that some one else did poorly, and putting them back together with love and care helps me understand life better.
Im with you on this one.
>It's a wonder that everything still holds together.
Its not actually, it was made to last.
>The cost of building...
>That's the end of the argument.
nope. The houses in pic rel are very labout intensive, brick house frame would cost very similar in terms of capital (=/=not reflected in current pricing due to low frequence of skill)
>I just don’t understand if years of dirty people lived inside of a concrete block before you, how could you fix the smell?
That's why they use wallpaper or this crazy paint that neutralizes moisture and mold growth, probably masks smells in solid walls too, wallpaper is a plus as it hides mold and I'm sure somewhat masks covers the smell, plus it doesn't chip like paint if there are problems with air circulation and moisture in the residence, but you know it's wallpaper and looks dated no matter what. There's always a stink in those buildings, you get "used" to it I guess.
>You were probably in some older houses, Im in a newer and has 0 problems with moisture, what place have you stayed? or was it an old one that had insulation put on later? similar to pic rel?
Split. Newer homes in Croatia won't have these problems if built by someone with half a brain of course, I'm talking about your numerous neo-classic buildings with clay roof tiles, people use the wrong paint for walls or make changes and then the mold kicks in.
Tyvek actually breaths outwards, if properly used I'm thinking would help, but who knows. In the house I'm currently constructing I used Tuff-R foam boards with aluminum face on both sides and Tyvek on the exterior, both help if moisture gets in there somewhere to exhaust out, plus Rockwool comfort batt for interior wall insulation, has a vapor barrier too right behind the sheetrock for walls, and even put some Rockwool sound proofing batts on some interior walls.
>Fine craftsmanship left in desrepair breaks my heart.
It's depressing, really hits me hard when I see that type of work decaying in a US city of all places.
>Money is not even the problem. It's way faster to put up drywall, wallpaper and tiles. Not many people can work with the traditional materials and tend to hire cheap and fast labor which results in rotting houses.
Yea, it's also ignorance
Please save pictures. I usually just hide these shit threads, but I’m liking everyone here.
Check my first paragraph in the above post. I feel you with every fiber of my being. You will see when you’re done with your project. It’s so fulfilling to take something poorly built and to restore it to quality. I enjoy knocking down walls and placing beams to build new walls. I do feel sad sometimes when I come across quality, hundred year old kitchen cabinets that are hand made, and somebody pays me to update them. Quality, like respect, is a dying concept.
Corporations want to build the cheapest possible houses and sell them at the highest possible price. It's been like this since the 1940s
USA is poor dude.
ITT: one really dumb slav that doesnt know what earthquakes are
>Corporations want to build the cheapest possible houses and sell them at the highest possible price. It's been like this since the 1940s
Yup, look at Levittown in Long Island. Funny part is those fast built homes back then are OK quality even today, but if you want to do any real work on them, you need a contractor that understands a few things. Nowadays they sometimes really cut corners, or just build them not to last too long. Case in point, pics OP originally posted.
I don’t work for a corporation. I build houses. People don’t want to PAY for anything outside of basic. It’s the reason Mexicans flock here, CORPORATIONS will hire them to do the cheapest work possible and save $. They have no interest in quality or craftsmanship. All they care about are costs and deadlines.
>Pain in the ass to get those walls to breath or seal them correctly and have the moisture exhaust outwards
you even have to buy particular paint to help with that, what a misery.
>ITT: one really dumb slav that doesnt know what earthquakes are
Believe it or not, those old houses in Croatia hold up VERY WELL to quakes, especially if its 100-200yr old exterior walls. Something to do with how they piled on huge flat rocks and the mortar they used.
We usually build on slab on grade, timber framing is still most popular but yes, steel framing is gaining popularity...it's mostly pre-fabbed these days, so just stand up and screw together
could be worse
>I'm talking about your numerous neo-classic buildings with clay roof tiles, people use the wrong paint for walls or make changes and then the mold kicks in.
ah that, was it a stone house? Combining old and new building techniques is always sketchy, Ive seen people put cement between the stones when they should have put lime mortar on newer houses. Extra chemical super durable poly paints is also another problem.
Regarding Tyvek and other modern stuff Im completly against it. It never lasts, just build bigger overhang, also isolation, why dont people just big extra thhicc walls like they used to? mixing materials vertically always leads to problems in durability and traps moisture.
>old houses in Croatia hold up VERY WELL to quakes, especially if its 100-200yr old exterior walls. Something to do with how they piled on huge flat rocks and the mortar they used.
you mean deep foundation or "flexibiltiy" of stone walls that kind of brace the impact? Japs do crazy thingg for modern earthquake proof skyscrapers, they have a long inner pillar on the center to allow the building the flex around - that method is actually 1000 year old
>steel framing is gaining popularit
sad!
wood framing >>> steel framing
steel is good for roofs, nothin else basically
10/10 banter!
Wallpapers can’t help the smell. Constant scents (piss, years of cigarettes) over years build in to porous things like concrete.
They use paint similar to what hospitals or prisons use. It’s a two part epoxy that has low permeability. Unless you get cheap builders. Those jokers use latex kills brand paint.
Jow Forums has been such a shithole recently. I’m enjoying this thread. Merry Christmas to you all, and thanks.
Wood is actually VERY fucking good for insulating the house.
However, it's inadmissible to not have an outer wall made out of stone, concrete or cured hard wood.
100% plywood just sounds like a complete pain in the ass to deal with in the long run. You can't even live a comfy retiree life in that house as you'll have to sink a metric ton of cash into it to keep it from rotting.
owning property in australia is a ponzi scheme, builders need to cut corners and get the best margin possible for the quickest build.
most of these properties begin to fall apart once the contract of been exchanged and thr builder has had time to declare bankrupcy to avoid claims.
>I’m enjoying this thread. Merry Christmas to you all, and thanks.
glad to hear friend, I was planning to open a construction thread (MCGA) which I do often but I did this way for the banter, pic rel is the old thread you might find interest in, I might reopen it for Christmas or day after, but its a high effort thread.
Im very interested in a civil construction revival.
>100% plywood
OP pic isnt even plywood, but OSB which is far less durable than plywood.
That is not a house. That is a retirement home.
The building will die in unison with the tenants.

>The earthquake in Dubrovnik in 1667[2] was one of the two most devastating earthquakes to hit the area of modern Croatia in the last 2,400 years, since records began. The entire city was almost destroyed and around 5,000 people were killed.[1]
lol
I always wondered why yuros had such a hard-on for ugly fucking wallpaper. This explains it.
>seriosuly, Im an apple pie big tits muscle car man and I love America
A fellow Arjun fan I see
>The building will die in unison with the tenants.
20-30 years is all that something like that is built for. I have worked on some of these types of buildings. Quality is not part of the deal. I have only worked on one wooden building in my entire 15 years in the trade, and it was a total waste of material. There is no way it would last 40 years.
t: plumber.
>20-30 years is all that something like that is built for
Ok retard.
>t: plumber.
More like plumber's helper. You're not licensed.

Dubrovnik is built on a made surface similar to Venice, he was refering to Split houses which are on bedrock mostly.
;)
Thanks for the tip that spray foam isn’t a good choice. Do you have a recommendation on how to insulate a 140 year old house without having to open all the walls up all the way?
Any eco types of blown in insulation made of denim or rockwool?
Wont land slides bury that city???
> muh breathing plywood wallls
lmao wtf
>croatian houses last forever and stand up to earthquakes no problem!
>n-n-not THOSE croatian houses!
lol ok
>tfw you live in a 200 y/o wooden house
ironically, like it or not, that is peak R value and support strength vs price. also termite resistant
Take the Tedpill
t. a kike
My house is 140 years. It was gutted and rehabbed, but the frame is old growth hard wood. I can see the beams in the basement roof. Solid and ready for another century
interesting picture you posted there.
Can I get more?
>I can see the beams in the basement roof.
>basement roof
For sure I'm gonna trust your opinion on construction. 100%
OSB and plywood is fine structurally, its only an issue when moisture gets in and can't escape. Proper weatherproofing will prevent rot and deterioration of the building. Lighter buildings are much more desirable than heavier buildings .
The fuck is wrong with plywood?
I HATE particle board. My Father hated it and his Father before him hated particle board. We are a generation of men trained in carpentry. My nephews, though young, will learn do despise particle board for the vile substance it is. Oriented Strand Board is glorified particle board. With all the water oaks being cut down around here, there simply is no reason for every home not to have oak timbers as opposed to pinewood probably from China.
stupid or shitpost? he obviously meant ceiling. (Standing in the basement, looking up at the beams)
It’s ok, user. Good threads here are organic and fleeting. Like a beautiful snow crystal. It took every one posting here to create the beauty of a simple thread.
Sometimes there’s so much fighting and bullshit here. It’s nice just to find random people that appreciate quality and craftsmanship.
wtf
>More like plumber's helper. You're not licensed.
Kek, I am actually licensed.
Plywood is real wood you jack wagon. It is literally scientifically engineered to be used for housing.
You know I run a lumber liquidation business and you sound exactly like every man over 60 years old who comes in. They always piss and moan about what the young contractors are doing, and how they should be doing it “the old fashioned way”.
There's some 800 year old houses in England that are still standing. Skewed like 10 degrees, but they're there.
Loads of old pubs have 100+ year old beams.
I realize they are floor joists.
Trusting the glue jew
pic rel, do you see Tyvek shit here, on one of the most challenging weathers on Earth?
OSB = roastie of wood
>Do you have a recommendation on how to insulate a 140 year old house without having to open all the walls up all the way?
whoooh!
plenty, if you are willing to compromise the durability or authenticity of the build, rockwool is always better that spray foam generally (even doe is slightly less effective thermally than spray foam).
do you have a pic of house, can you describe?
wood houses are great actually, but OSB isnt actually wood
>OSB and plywood is fine structurally, its only an issue when moisture gets in and can't escape.
how are they fine again?
>My nephews, though young, will learn do despise particle board for the vile substance it is.
IT IS VILE!!!!!!
most furniture here is LDF particle board or "expensive one" is MDF, you cant even burn that vile crap safely!!!!!
>Plywood is real wood you jack wagon.
jokes on you fag, since OSB isnt plywood, its utter dogshit of cancerous glue and leftover wood. The roastie of wood.
Stupid is using the word roof for ceiling
Prove it.
Some of that shit is made with toxic glue. I would never trust it if from China
>There's some 800 year old houses in England that are still standing.
those half timber stuff in UK is hgnhhh!
Easy to spot the morons that know fuck all about construction ITT
Was In west Virginia Building 6 plex apartment buildings. The corners we used the osb board then the rest was 1/2" x 4'x8' foam insulation board. It was ridiculous. We we're the framers walls on slab second story then setvtrussed roof sheeted roof with plywood, tar paper then asphalt shingles. On top of a hill wind blowing good you could feel the building sway. The lead carpenter said it was ok because after the building was finished the dead load and the concrete hardiboard siding would be the lateral support. I thought what bullshit. I build in South Florida and have been through many hurricane s. We build good down here.
Even easier to spot the bitter assholes.
I remember when Chinese drywall was corroding wiring.... Disgusting
>uneducated framer has an opinion and thinks he knows better than the architect/engineer
Shut the fuck up and know your place
lol mad, little bitch? I made you look stupid cause you are stupid. Dont try to talk about shit you know nothing about and you wont get cyberbullied
>I remember when Chinese drywall was corroding wiring.... Disgusting
Sounds like something you made up in your mind. Got a source for this?
This
trusting the McConstructor jew
Anyone see Risinger homes on YouTube... Is he any good?
look up chinese drywall on youtube
OP, I'm in interested in building my own house and you seem to be an enlightened person. Do you know anything about local laws, do I really need to hire an architect or can I do the whole work myself?
no you
It’s a painting. All the buildings are wood, in your painting. You couldn’t see tyvek because it would exist underneath the siding.
Calm down user.
Do it all yourself. What could go wrong?
Aw yeah
because no one will notice under my faux brick walls
