big walls dont really work in 2018 , not on scales of thousands of km . what you should be doing is a border with ground radar,infrared cameras,motion sensors , tunnel detection measures in certain places and a well trained border patrol to respond to attacks quickly .

keeping people from crossing an unattended barrier is impossible , it's purpose is to deter and delay crossings until the patrol can respond . you can do this very cheaply using simple barbed wire

Two reasons: People are problem solvers (putting up barriers is nice, but with a motivation to get around them, folks will find a way).
Secondly, most illegals came here legally with visa overstays making their being here illegal. The only solution to EITHER of these problems is a national E-verify system. Only thing that will not only address the motive for coming here, but also the motive for staying.

This. Landmines are the best solution. Also, if Trump puts in landmines made from plastic polymer then it'll be impossible to find them using metal detectors. If he also destroys all records of where they were placed before he leaves the house, it will be impossible for the Democrats to ever remove them all.

Also, if the U.S. government offered a decent bounty on beaner scalps then they wouldn't have to bother with a border patrol because people would hunt down the illegals for them.

Since Trumps initial eight wall designs have been forbidden by the congress, this is now the only viable solution.

Active enforcement can't be the primary way because the Democrats will simply abandon it once they get in power again. A passive barrier like a wall is much more difficult for the Democrats to circumvent.

In my opinion, if the United States were to work with the Mexican government is obliterating the cartels, there would be no need for a border wall.

Real government reforms can occur when candidates aren’t threatened by assassinations, and if people’s quality of life improves, they are more likely to stay where they are rather than cross the border.
