Never fucking learned how to jog

Posted this elsewhere who knows when. But I'm an unfit chubby fuck and I'm trying to lose my belly so I can actually look at myself. Thing is, I tried going for a jog yesterday and I failed myself. After like 30 seconds I looked like Patrick in the attached photo. How do I jog for a substantial amount of time without my fucking lungs burning like capsaicin?

Switch to cycling instead, your knees will thank you. Do some easy 30-45 minute workouts in zone 2 for your first week, then start to mix in a few sprints that get your heart rate to almost max. When you feel up to it, start adding some HIIT workouts to your regimen.

t. former fatass who cycles indoors while watching anime and now has a 45 resting heart rate

I heard cycling is less effective, though. Does it affect overall weightloss? Like, including around the waist and belly?

>less effective
SO start on cycle and move to running when you built up a bit of stamina
30 seconds today, 31 tomorrow. Nobody said it'd be easy

You heard wrong...it can be pretty damn effective if you want it to be.

Forgot to add, yeah its effective for weightloss I guess, though weightloss is ultimately found by eating less. But yeah with cycling you can burn 1000 calories an hour and go for like 3-5 hours or more after you get used to it. All with little stress on your joints.

Use pre-workout, for real I use it for everything including cardio. I highly, highly suggest to use Redweiler; even for cardio. It's more then just energy.

Running is pretty much the least effective exercise you can do.
Not only do you have to do it for like 2 hours to even make a dent in calories, it fucks up your knees.

Do high intensity cardio or intervals on the elliptical. It only takes 20 minutes and will keep you burning fat even after you stop.

This, I personally suggest sprinting.

The idea is to be hyper intense with cardio, you want to sweat as soon as possible and as much as possible

Fist off, by practicing running, that's just common sense.
Second of all, weightloss is more complicated than "just exercise". It's a lot more about what you eat.
I would advise you to read the sticky on Jow Forums, BUT BUT BUT DO NOT READ ANY OTHER THREAD and don't take any advice from the posters there. They are retards, but there is genuinely good information in the sticky.
Don't take any other info from there seriously though, I can't stress this enough.

I started running about 1 year ago, I started out not quite as bad as you, but I was not able to run even two minutes before having to take a walking break, wheezing and panting.
These days, I run easy 24 minute 5ks, sub 60 minute 12ks and running seriously, I can do a sub 18 minute 5k.
That may not be that impressive to some people, but to me, that is a serious accomplishment considering my previous life style.
Keep at it, OP, you'll improve soon.

Understandable, especially since I posted a similar post to this a while ago and the general consensus was "get up and jog faggot. your fat disgusting body will get used to it."

Interesting, I actually like sprinting. Any other ones you recommend?

I never knew that, actually. How is it possible that it can burn fat all over my entire body, including after I stop the workout?

Oh wow, do you think that stuff actually comes in smaller sized containers or at least energy bars or something? I'd look like a total Chad walking out of the store with that thing.

Get into weightlifting and a bit of cardio. Weightlifting will help you burn fat and build muscles while the cardio is good for your own-self image/esteem.

The harder you workout, the more your body had to repair and strengthen it which takes time and energy. The people that burn the most calories aren't runners etc, its people who do strength-based activities AND are actively moving around doing it.

Used to be a sub elite runner. Ignore all these idiots talking about ruining your knees, it’s simply not true unless you’re overweight, which if you are you should start by losing he weight through non weight bearing activities.
The thing about running is it is so easy to do, all you need is a good pair of shoes. Go to a running store and get fitted there. Once you got that start out slow. Couch to 5k is a good program. Don’t be afraid to go slow and easy. Easy should be enough to hold a conversation. It’s a misconception that running is supposed to be hard or overly taxing, in fact it’s often quite relaxing. You’d be surprised how slow I run on my easy runs yet when it’s time to race I can get moving pretty quickly. Do these kind of runs often and quickly you will build endurance and take off days as needed and walk if you need to. The most important part is consistency.
Running is very peaceful and a great way to exercise and maintain weight. Make sure your form is ok (watch videos on YouTube) and try to run on soft surfaces like trails or grass. It’s a really rewarding exercise.
If you have anymore questions I’d be glad to help out but remember the hardest part is starting.

Ignore most of the people here.
What you did was totally normal. That's what everyone feels after the first time.
You're unfit. You said it yourself. There is nothing you can do not to feel less like shit because you are shit. At running. And cardio in general.

Get some shoes that feel good (that's my only problem with the guy above me, you don't need $120 fucking shoes with wireless connection that tracks your footsteps and also does your taxes). Get something with a real rubber sole and that fits right. No need for anything over 40 bucks, not unless you plan on doing some ultramarathons in them.

Anyways jog until you can't do it any longer. Then when you have caught your breath, jog again. Repeat. It's impossible to run whole miles the first time out. And it's ridiculous to expect to do so.
You did fine. Just next time. Jog. Then stop. Then jog. Then stop. Eventually those "stops" will start being 10s of minutes. Then you won't have any at all.

Also, if your goal is just to lose weight, jogging won't help you. A single can of coke will undo everything you did. The answer is to eat better. You lose weight in the kitchen, you get fit working out. Big difference.

Diet is just as big as, if not a bigger contributing factor than exercise. My diet consists heavily on cheese fries, ice cream and chip-like foods. I know how unhealthy it is, but I haven't been able to find anything else that I can consistently like and enjoy on a regular basis. I can't just reach into my pantry and pull out a fucking fruit salad.

5'5" and 152 lbs, jsyk.

I want to do that, but social anxiety I guess. Just thinking about the neighbors seeing some dude in track pants jogging and stopping every 2 minutes like he just did a 20m sprint.

Oatmeal, fruit, eggs, whole wheat bread, chicken, rice, beans, steamed veggies. Easy to eat cheap and healthy. Count calories if you have to and treat yourself every 5 days or so

I don't want some Schwarzenegger-level pecs or anything like that. Just to lose my fat belly and get thinner, more aesthetically pleasing body parts.

Just don't buy them?
It's easier to not buy something than it is to not eat it when you want to.

Make your own meals. You can make real good things that are low on calories

Go early in the morning or late at night. Trust me no one cares. Don’t be afriad to slow down. Think of it like this, when you see someone exercising outside you look at them for maybe 2 seconds then stop caring. When I see other people running it makes me happy! Start tomorrow you can do this!!

You just got home from a long ass day at work. You're tired, you're hungry and you just want to crash on the couch and eat something. What do you make?

Thanks for the encouragement mate :) I definitely will try again in the morning!

Personally I opt for something easy like a chicken breast (oven, grill, or skillet), microwave steam some broccoli or another vegetable and make a another easy side like rice, beans, corn, or chickpeas. Make enough for 2-3 days of leftovers.

It’s much easier to commit to making something if you know what it is. Decide what you’re having/making in the morning/night before. Take out meat to thaw and other ingredients so you are ready to cook when you get home. Could also throw stuff in a crockpot and have it ready by the time you get home. Cooking can be a fun activity and is a useful skill for life.

Not him but I often make meals ahead of time like sometimes several days ahead when I know I'll have no time to dick around in the kitchen and I'll just want to eat and sleep.

You need to fix your relationship with food .. especially if you’re overweight, exercise doesn’t matter. You need to resolve your food addiction / eat better.

Former skinnyfat here and it was the same for me. I was winded after 30 seconds of light jogging but when you do it several times a day everyday you'll just naturally make progress.

Chicken breast is often too expensive.
Cheap pork is cheaper.
You can do the same thing.
But fuck steaming. Fry that bitch in the fat from the chops.
The calorie difference is like 50. And it'll taste so much better.

The issue is less about what is in a single meal and more about how many meals you eat.
Fatties often eat all day long. Never eat snacks. If your stomach rumbles, don't grab a granola bar, think more about how great it'll feel when you get to eat soon.
You can eat only 3 times a day. Fruit at breakfast, sandwich at lunch, and real food at dinner.
Do just that, and your real meal can be anything

Eh, not really fond of pork. My mom used to serve me pork chops sometimes and that shit tasted like leather. Really put me off of the stuff.

Pretty much, but that's 100x easier said than done.

And the problem with that is, I used to be bulimic. It's hard for me to find a middle ground between eating a large Big Mac meal and trying to bear through the constant hunger pains with nothing but soda crackers.

by jogging. people recommend the 'couch to 5k' because your stamina is like a muscle. it has to be trained. you can force it but only to a point where it becomes unhealthy. having a more active person force you to do it is beneficial.

that being said, i was similar in highschool til gym class. our teacher was lenient and said you can do whatever you want in the gym as long as it was active. im not good at sports so i just walked around the track. i jogged where i could. for an hour and a half every other day for two quarters.

by the end of it i could run a 7 minute mile. and i still wasn't running the entire time.

Oh so something frozen? Or you mean you plan it several days ahead?

Oh god, vegetables. I hate vegetables. Rice and maybe corn are okay, and I've never had beans or chickpeas before. But broccoli, carrots, spinach--I can't do it unless it's mixed in with something else.

Neither rice nor corn are vegetables, they are cereals.

Yeah I know. I was just mentioning those cause he put them in that list.

Jogfag here. You're doing it wrong.

Unless you're severely sick, you can jog. The goal is not to run fast, but to keep a steady pace for a long time. Slow down as much as you need to. Take brakes in between switching to regular walking mode.

Most important: Posture!
Of all people I know jogging, maybe 10% keep a good posture. A good posture will reduce the load on your knees to a minimum and will train your whole body from the waist down. Look it up. Basically walk as if you have a dildo stuck in your ass. Keep a straight upper body, slightly bend out your ass, and always keep your legs bend at a relatively low level. Keep your heel lift to a minimum and learn how to roll your feet. Also get cushioned shoes. I recommend some adidas with FAT boost sole.

Breathing patterns help with preserving your joints' integrity too, inhale for 3 steps then exhale for 2. Make sure you breathe through your nose and mouth. It feels weird at first, but it helps a lot.

So almost like the Naruto run but without the arms?

Lol annon, I know there are test packages; but i got those when I orderd something else. As far as I know I dont think there is.

No, dum dum. Your torso should be straight up.

Has anyone here ever gotten out of being a picky eater, or known someone that’s done it? I’m not very overweight and don’t eat much throughout the day but what I do eat often isn’t very healthy. I’ve been a picky eater all my life and I’ve slowly introduced new foods but greens, anything with a weird texture, and anything with a very strong smell absolutely repulse me. My main fear about eating healthy is that I won’t enjoy food anymore.

I like to get a value pack of boneless skinless chicken breasts and cook them all up at once. If you have a cast iron pan with a lid (and if you don't, they're not too expensive), you can just cook the chicken on both sides, then put the lid on for 15 minutes and voila! You have a week's worth of chicken. Use sauces so you don't get flavor fatigue. Microwave steamed veggies for the side. Takes about 25 minutes to make food for a week.

I do chicken for one week, then salmon for the next. Salmon is more expensive, but tastier (I use blackening seasoning) and it takes less time to cook.

This is all ultra-basic, but you can spice it up if you have a culinary flair. I'm more utilitarian, so I don't mind if it's plain. I do get a sweet tooth every now and then, but I just buy a bag of Werther's candies and eat one (and only one) when the sweet tooth hits.

I don't understand your posture tip, but I just bought a dildo so I can figure it out. Thanks, user!

I'm a somewhat picky eater, but there are so many foods that are healthy enough that it's not a concern. One of the things I do is make a smoothie for breakfast. You can throw even things you don't usually like in there, and it'll make it mush, and as long as you have other things that taste good, you don't even know.

Swim burns the most calories, but I have found staying at around 25-50 carbs a day worked pretty fast for me. To not get off track, once a week have a cheat day and eat pizza or whatever you want. Adkins meal bars do wonders.

Aren't those bars like packed with sugar? That's what I heard

I'm very finnicky about smoothies. Absolutely no chunks, grit, or pulp, or else I'll spit it out.

What do you usually put in your smoothies?
