Once upon a time a group of oppressed people decided they were fed up with living in fear, and went out to found a country of their own. There was one small problem though: everywhere on the known earth was already taken.
These people said "to heck with it", and they decided to go to one of the already inhabited lands and conquer it for themselves. The land they chose was one that they believe god had ordained to them.
So off they went. The original inhabitants weren't too happy about it of course, but the invaders managed to fend them off. Many of the original inhabitants were slaughtered by the invaders, and others ran away only to be caged into zones that the invaders controlled, to keep them separate from the invaders.
Very quickly the invaders declared independence and were attacked by their enemies, but managed against all odds to prevail. Their borders secure they immediately set to work changing the culture of the land, away from the deeply spiritual culture of the native inhabitants to one of liberal values and secular democratic government, things alien to the original peoples.
And the invaders put their interests above all other nations. They immediately played realpolitik with other nations, making sure that their interests were represented on the international stage, even if that meant undermining their apparent friends. The result was massive success, with the invaders not only becoming a strong and prosperous nation, but integrating themselves strategically within other nations in order to see their interests were carried out. In time this led to the new nation becoming disproportionately successful, with a string of scientific discoveries, cultural achievements, and economic forays that established their people as the global elite.
And the original inhabitants of the conquered land? Slowly forgotten. The invaders made taboo any suggestion that what they had done to the original inhabitants constituted oppression or genocide. They preached a message that their conquest was peaceful and benevolent. And they pointed to their greatness compared to the original inhabitants as a kind of subtle nod toward the idea that they were ordained by god to be where they are.
I am of course talking about the United States of America and the genocide of the Native Americans that enabled it.
If you think Israel is an illegitimate state and Palestine is occupied territory that should be returned, then that's fine, but you must also believe that the United States of America is also an illegitimate state and its territory should be handed back to the native inhabitants. The same can be said for Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, etcetera.
Why is any part of America allowed to be occupied by force by "Americans" and claimed as their homeland, and not Israel be occupied by Israelis?

It's revisionist because that behavior was the norm. You wrote the story of Israel but called it the USA to make a parallel that is imperfect. The natives were nomadic and the majority of the tribes had no concept of land ownership. The war between the tribes and the colonies didn't even start over territory -- it started because some of the natives believed they could get away with the kind of spontaneous pillaging they had been doing to each other for generations. The US did not practice wholesale foreign infiltration in such a way that compromised those foreign nations until last century, until then, the US was an isolationist pariah. I could go on.
