I guess not. It’s an interaction of many things which are in themselves simple. It really isn’t puzzling to look at a person and see what things they could be doing to improve themselves.

Starting reading some philosophy, stoicism , Nieztche and Buddism philosophy helped me (even biblism , even tho im agnostoc )through my depression
If that doesn't do it , they use some psychedelics in low dosage , and sitback and accept yourself as you really are

But not all source of sadness is caused by thoughts or situation only , your source of sadness maybe Endogenous or Existential crisis
But either way , it'd be a good idea to you see an Psychiatrist
Depression can be caused by sadness, and sadness by depression
Depression is Egosyntonic you maybe with depression a long time w/o even knowing it, I started having it after my brother was shot dead , due to sadness i stopped eating and Inanition took part in triggering it ( depression )
Now i don't to a Psychiatrist because I have GAD,
I have to go to sleep it's nearly 2 a.m here in Brazil

This. Also shower and get daily sunlight. Feed yourself healthy. Write good stuff about yourself or what makes you feel better no matter how small, try your hardest to appreciate it, no matter how small. If not, get therapy.

make an effort to notice all the cringy/fake/stupid things people in higher positions of power do. Do they see embrassed or self loathing about it?
