strategic control of resources is important. i do however think iraq was a huge mistake. i was 11 when the invasion started and it seemed stupid to me even then, even though they pushed propaganda in the fucking middle schools.

The real reasons are pretty simple... the military industrial complex needs feeding. Think of all the contractors making a killing off our almost two decade occupation of the Middle East, everything from the food and clothing to the weapons is contracted out.
For example, Dick Cheney who was instrumental in getting the US entrenched over in the Middle East gave out a huge contract to one the companies he is associated with to supply the entire military over there (not sure exactly what they supplied).
It just boils down to corruption and greed. Defense corporations pulling the strings of the corrupt politicians, etc.
The entire quagmire in the Middle East has been a waste of trillions of dollars of tax payer money and thousands of soldiers have had their lives taken or ruined from mortal wounds. Our politicians deserve to hang for what they’ve done.
