Where do you draw the line between millenials and gen Z?
Is Logan Paul the deadline? I mean that guy can't be a millenial and this whole generation is very much like him, on the other hand I'm sure he remembers 9/11 even though he was 6 at the time. Most places I read say 93-96 is the beginning of gen Z, so what's the veredict?
>t. 25 year old afraid of being teamed up with the boomers
From my understanding Gen Z starts at like 99 or 2000, I might put it earlier and say it's children who grew up with internet from birth.
Also wtf are you on about with boomers? Baby boomers are way way older.
Sebastian Wright
>On today's episode of "user takes memes seriously..."
Josiah Carter
The cutoff is >do you remember other kids having smartphones in your childhood? (starting with iphone) if no, you're not gen z, which means you were born AT LEAST in 97 or earlier.
Im born in 1995 but i hardly went on the internet, and am completely out of touch with what my ex girlfriend did on social media, and she just turned 20
Josiah Price
I'm 96 and I don't remember it
I do have a memory of brazil vs france in 98, crazy right
Christian Adams
I'm 33 years old and technically a millenial which is retarded because it groups me with people who grew up on Youtube and Playstation 3 and even Jow Forums and think that the world before the internet was like the 1900s when really it was just before they were born.
but whatever man shit's boring who cares
William Bailey
>brazil vs france in 98, crazy right yes, it is
Landon Ortiz
Gen Y/Millennial didn't grow up on Smartphones, and they witnessed the development of the early internet and digital age; they also witnessed Y2K and 9/11. If you have memories of AOL and dial-up sounds, and watching the twin towers go down live, then you're Gen Y. It's simple.
Gen Zers are post 95 according to the US census. But it is kinda arbitrary to draw a line in the sand. i believe it has to do with smartphones. 95 is the earliest birth year for Zoomers to have had iPhones in high school etc.
Personally I'm a 92' and although there really can't be a world of a difference between me and someone born in 95-99, I remember most of the things I mentioned. And also, I didn't have a smartphone until 12th grade (wasn't rich enough to afford a 700 dollar iPhone). For those reasons, I think there is a subtle difference between me and someone five years younger.
Luke Jenkins
The actual definition of millennial begins with kids born roughly around '81 and ends with kids who were born in '96, which of course is bullshit, because 32 year old me has nothing in common with a kid who is younger than the N64.
I had the really fucking early internet, but mostly, the people around me didn't have this in their world until about 2000. That's 13-14 years of a computer with a CD-ROM being cutting edge tech.
In between Millennials are Gen X'ers. Boomers are my parents and are about to retirement age, if not retired... unless you're into the meme, in which case you start being a boomer at 17.
Grayson Cruz
If you grew up on Keenan and Kel you're a millenial. Only 90's kids remember.
Nicholas Perry
im part of both categories and it's weird i try to find the good in both ends though. millenials are more moral and just better attitude wise but gen z just lives fast and is exciting as fuck with no cares
i was born in the early 90s but i look so much younger and i like newer culture so much anyways most people just think im young and they all look at me weird if i tell them my age
Isaac Howard
Same except I was born in 89. Kids these days have the benefit of learning anything they want at their fingertips so kids are jaded but also smart. Everyone is more detached and subdivided In the mass-production zone. Nowhere is the dreamer or the misfit so alone.
Cameron Collins
1996 is what Pew says is the end of Millennials. They were the youngest to be in school on 9/11.
Based on this pic though, would y'all be Xoomers, Yoomers, or Zoomers?
You're Millennials. You're just a different "wave" of Millennials from younger ones. Each generation has about three waves (early, core, late) each having its own unique culture and flavor, but still being part of an overall whole.
Josiah Powell
Core Gen Y needs more Limp Bizkit. I'd put a picture of TRL in there with Carson Daly.
Camden Ortiz
That pic makes absolutely no sense, not only are you defining an entire gen based on the tv they watched that shits no even in chronological order.
Jeremiah Harris
I'm total millenial to a T. I share all the negative traits of millenial. Early Gen Y is when I stopped watching tv. This is making me feel old.
Robert Richardson
Early gen y is when you *stopped* watching tv yet you say you have the traits of a millennial? Are you a hipster 40 year old? Or did you mean to say Early Z instead of Y.
Thomas Morris
I know I am by definition, but the difference in velocity of communication in most "generations" isn't as extreme as that very wide range.
The most impactful technological adoptions of modern history are likely the lightbulb, the telephone, the car, the airplane, then a huge pause until the television, then the computer, and an even further gap until the internet.
There hasn't been a technological revolution of that kind in such a short time where we wrap everyone into one thing. We're a more homogenized world than ever, and short of some kind of teleportation, than we'll ever be. But the internet is a huge thing to group us all into over 20 years.
Owen Torres
Early Yoomer, Late Xoomer.
Christian Myers
I meant Early Gen Z is when I stopped watching tv. I hate Gen Z television and music. At least all the stuff that's on that picture. Damn I'm old
Thomas Howard
logan paul is 95, that guy is 100% gen Z
sorry, but boomers are 94 and below
Ian Miller
Can't really blame Gen Z for this. It's everyone constantly missusing the the term boomer from Gen X down. It went from actual baby boomers to just middle aged guys to anyone in their 30s or reminisces on their youth.
Nolan Hughes
It makes total sense. They're not defining the generations based on TV, they're showing what media people in those generations consumed in their childhood.
Anthony Mitchell
Yeah some of these tv shows and shit are out of place and often lap over several mini generarions. I was born in the mid late 80s and malcolm in the middle was a huge TV show for me, and it came out in 2000 not 2001. Also the fact that a lot of shows went on syndication and aired ad reruns for years and years.
As another example, people think of family guy as some 2010s show but it came out in 1998. 20 years ago.
Oliver Williams
It's just a meme used by newfags to make fun of oldfags. The first few years of Jow Forums posters are at leat in their mid late 20s at their youngest with most of them being over 30.
Dominic Fisher
It's a meme that comes from millennials missusing "boomer" to refer to anyone old. Actual boomers are in their 60's-70's.
Hudson Lopez
>millenials missusing "boomer"
I'm 33 years old and a millenial, the mene is aimed at me. Those saying it are underage gen z.
Hunter Collins
It's aimed at baby boomers, those born after WWII. Gen Xer's used the term to rail against their hippy parents that screwed up their future prospects. Then millennials used the term to rail against their parents. Now Gen Z is memeing it for anyone over their 20s. The source of the meme is it's missuse and abuse as a term for anyone old when really it's for senior citizens.
Alexander White
1996+=genz 1995zoomers,yoomers Literally drugs, you're all idiots.
Nolan Baker
I loved reading goosebumps and animorphs when I was a kid. That said, most of the "culture" you listed there is garbage.
Logan Ramirez
Millennial changed its meaning similar to how "gay" used to mean "happy". The book pictured here was written in 2000 and has high schoolers born in 1982 calling themselves Millennials because they're graduating in 2000.
Yet nowadays everyone born in 82 is denying they're a Millennial and thinks Millennials are 13 year olds who eat tide pods.
THE MEME is aimed at millennials, the original meaning is those born after WW2.
I think they're the hippies of the 60s who became the yuppies of the 80s.
Christian Parker
Lol, 13 is definitely gen z.
Leo Brown
I know but everyone calls Gen Z millennials. It's a catchy word so everyone just uses it for ALL young people.
Anthony Ross
People of a previous generation can be heroes of a later generation. Keanu reeves was born in 1964, technically a last-year boomer (birth rates plummeted in 1965 because of the birth control pill), but he's a hero to Gen X.
Ian Thomas
>Older than 24 = BOOMER >12-24 = MILLENNIAL >Younger than 12 = GEN Z
Thomas Long
Ages: 0-6 = Gen A1 7-20 = Gen Z 21-34 = Millennial ( Gen Y ) 35-50 = Gen X 51-70 = Boomer 71+ = Whats left of greatest generation
Andrew Ross
Stroaus Howe generational theroy 1982-2004:mellenials Gen Z or "Homeland generation":2005-202X
Ethan James
How is a 36 year old in the same generation as his 14 year old kid lol
Owen Bennett
I'm 37 and I typically get paired with millennials. I definitely feel in between millennial and Gen X.
Gen X is the cooler name though. So I guess I'm that. Whatever.
William Young
Yeah you're on the cusp. When you were 5-8 you were probably into Late Gen X kid culture like He Man, Inspector Gadget, Robocop, Whitesnake, Transformers, Who framed roger rabbit, and NES.
But towards the end of your childhood when you were 9-12, you might've gotten into VERY early millennial kid things though, like Snes, Ninja turtles movie, Fresh prince, Vanilla ice, ren and stimpy, Aladdin, Bart Simpson craze, and Home alone. Was this close to your experience?
