Remember when the Hawks (falcons) got back together to rescue Griffith? Then when they realize he's a ruined husk of a man, they weep for him and tend to his wounds. Griffith's decision to sacrifice them all at that point is the most cold-hearted shit you can imagine. Who was his kingdom for? What was the point of any of it except to place himself on high and call their sacrifice justified because he got his kingdom? And at the end of the day, Guts shattered his belief in himself. If Guts wasn't the overman, Griffith wouldn't have been ruined by him leaving. (And beating him in battle)
Too bad the story is so far off the path now that we'll never see it come to closure. I don't care about some poo in loo god man who can turn into a hurricane. The berserker's armor is a bad plot device to keep Guts growing in strength. It's all just falling apart and it's a shame because the golden arc is some of the best fiction ever put to paper.

The Nietzschean overman wouldn't have been shattered when Guts left him, I don't think. That moment was when Griffith stops being an overman and realizes he truly needs someone else. He's shaken, so he makes mistakes. Perhaps at that moment he realizes that he's inferior to Guts in some way, and his confidence is ruined. He tries to take a shortcut to the throne and pays the price. At that point, all that's left is his desire to get a kingdom.
