I took these in nature recently after taking them in an urban environment a few times before and it's amazing how little they impair you in a survival sense. It was actually easier to navigate brush and shit, and I was more in tune with my surroundings. strange for something that's called a drug.

You know, I've never taken 3.5 yet, but that's my next plan. I think 1-1.5g is best for a beginner if not going straight to 3.5g. if you're too in the middle of the experience I think it fucks you up more than otherwise. My 2-2.5g trips were awful, and not necessarily in a way that gave me significant insight.
