I think Wiki considers them to be part of the West, but I've also heard people refer to them as apart of the East or Central European; distinct from both the Western and Eastern world. In my point of view, I'd separate the West from the East based on religious influence; the West being Catholicism and Protestantism vs the East being Orthodox. Obviously there are other factors that play into that as well, but I digress.
I was at a Christmas party with some of my family yesterday and we baked Kolackies (not sure if I spelt it right) which is like a pastry of some sort. It is a family tradition; we've done it almost every Christmas with that side of the family. It's literally the only thing I've ever done that relates to my ethnic past. We had a conversation about our origins and stuff so it made me curious. I'd like to visit the Czech Republic some day. Thankfully, I don't think I'll have to worry about getting blown up or attacked with acid or ran over by a van or something because from what I can tell they're pretty based.
I lived in Czech Republic for a while. Basically if you hate them, you call them a eastern country, and if you like them you call them a western country. They're certainly the most western of all the eastern shitholes.

The question is whether austria-hungary and germany were of the same western flavour that is the franco-anglo world that nowadays defines what is western.
