Plato once said that it was excesses and shortages of attributes that led to sin. Too much freedom, and there is anarchy. Too little freedom, and there is tyranny. This 'liberal democracy' that proports to have made the West is a revisionist interpretation of history. The Founding Fathers were right-wing authoritarians. The original Confederacy, predicated on Sovereignty, fell apart due to disunion and poor organization. There is no more truth to the 'liberal foundation' of society than there is to peace between Islam and Christianity. Much like Islam did to the middle east, liberalism conquered the west and rewrote it in its own image. In this sense, fascism is not as far fetched as you think, because despite all that has changed, humans have still remained the same. We need a guiding hand. I'd prefer God, but some will be satisfied with any form of strong ruler.
