my dad got scammed by online marketing people. he wanted to make money off the 'internet' so he got involved in multiple pyramid schemes and multi level marketing campaigns where basically you recruit people to join for $30 or w/e then they recruit, you promote it through facebook, or websites, you generate false traffic there. it was just a big mess and he wanted me to help him do it (create a website) and i just didnt involve myself so he got very hostile.
the one thing he was right about though (mind you this was liike 2016) was bitcoin. he did buy a few bitcoin but rather then being smart and holding onto them as if they were stocks he would pull money back out to use irl and never really profited it. but he did have like $2,000 USD in bitcoin back then so now he'd made a lot of money off that but of course he never had the volume or investment know how to actually profit off it.
last i talked to him he fell for another scheme a bitcoin mining pool where he though he was actually making money by paying them $25 a month or w/e to be part of the mining pool and they were releasing fractions of bitcoin money into his account but he could never withdrawal it becasue it was a scam. the site said he was making like $500 a month just by paying them $25 to be part of the mining pool.
