Dietrich Ter Jung, a Knight's Cross recipient who was also the last remaining German officer to command a regiment sized unit during the war died three weeks back in Stuttgart. He was almost 103 years old.
He commanded a Panzergrenadier regiment of the elite Panzer Lehr division in the Eastern Front.

Awards: Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class German Cross in Gold Infantry Assault Badge in silver Knights Cross of the Iron Cross Wound badge in silver.
