I take no real pleasure in it, but it's true. Some groups are not able to survive in the modern world quite the same way. Uplifting them has brought them misery, health issues and diseases for which they have no experience, and so much more. They have either exploded in population or declined. The white man thought he was doing good, though, so he cannot really be blamed for it. He didn't know then what we know now. They are fauna, nothing more, like clever rhinos with thumbs.

Actually, a lot of things back then (violent crime rates, infant mortality, life expectancy, disease prevalence, etc) were not too different from those in third world countries today.
