Suppose that once a week, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to £100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this...

High tax rates in other countries work differently to the US. In the UK if they increase the rates people start domiciling themselves elsewhere. The US taxes on worldwide income so that does not apply.

The problem is taxation and spending in the US. The government spends a lot of money it does not have and the US congress just passed a massive unfunded tax cut. They should reintroduce pay-go rules to new spending and aim for a balanced budget by the middle of the 2030s.
