You can't fuck with economic markets, they always push back with some equal and opposite reaction. It's the same thing that happens when you raise minimum wage, it just raises the cost of living and the people most harmed by that are the poorest people. The poor are the ones that can barely afford bread and milk and when the cost increases just a bit it leaves them without. It's the same reason minimum wage needs increasing every few years, because that's roughly how long it takes the market to adjust.

I own joint equity in a business, the idea that we'd all take a massive tax hit one year and absorb that cost personally is ridiculous, we'll do what every other savvy business owners will do and that's to pass those costs onto the customers by raising our prices.
