In an effort to go around the Constitutional requirement for an Electoral College, 10 states and DC have signed an agreement to award their Electoral College votes to the winner of the national vote. This would in effect end the Electoral College and only the national vote overall would matter.

It doesn't bother them that a candidate could become president by winning only a plurality of the popular vote. If they want true democracy, why don't the demand a candidate receive an outright majority of the popular vote? This would have meant that Bill Clinton would never have become president as he never recieved an outright majority of the vote. He only recieved 43 percent in 1992. 57 percent of the voters did not vote for him. And Lincoln, whom many consider the greatest president received only 39 percent of the popular vote - 61 percent of voters did not vote for him. He then proceeded to declare war on his own country.
