I call this using flawed statistics.
When you think homeless you think of the "men" on the streets either living there full time or part time via scraping up money to stay in a shelter (shelters for men are not free ya know).
The average person does not think of not having a proper address while staying with friends/family/etc or couch surfing as homeless.
On paper those women might be "homeless", many do this to get more government benefits and in a quicker fashion.
Women who are "homeless" have a so many options they technically don't feel the true meaning of the word.
Women shelters will take them for free, on top of that feed them, clothe them, aid them in signing up for government programs, if they have kids forget it you're being pushed to the front of the SNAP and Section 8 lists. They are given everything to start over.
Men don't have a safety net. If you're homeless you're fucked.
The government frowns on men signing up for aid. In some states they have it set to make it harder for men to apply for the same fresh start programs. Shelters don't want you to stick around. Never mind family for friends. Many people believe by helping you they're taking care of you and they aren't going to take care of a grown man.
So the numbers might add up on paper but technically they're wrong.
