I'm an atheist who has been going to church lately. There is something positive there that the West is discarding at it's own peril. I'm considering converting. Pray for me.
Christianity is Good?
Don't convert to Catholicism and read the KJV of the bible
It's good, and it's comfy because it's good. Treat everyone as if they might be you living another life.
Community and a sense of belonging is important user. If anything else hold on to that. I’ll be praying for you brother.
Thanks user. i think I'm almost ready.
>anything Celtic
>Christian at all
Do it user. Don't be afraid.
Not afraid, but I want to make sure my conversion is sincere.
Hmmm... interesting. What about eh English Standard Version?
Atheist European Nations are imploding under (((globalism))) while Christian Nations (Poland) are not.
Coincidence?
To anyone that can see this through the Ghost Ban filters, you are the Resistance.
Definitely will. I'm phoneposting right now but is there anything you are currently questioning or confused about?
What's the denomination of church you go to?
Sounds sincere Jow Forumsomanndobro, good luck, I’m converting to Catholicism. Do yourself a favor and try and find talks on the Bible before just diving right in because there’s a lot that you might miss due to cultural differences and how long ago it was written. There’s a ton to learn and it totally rules, God Speed user. Also check out the latest science on the Shroud of Turin, it’s honestly awesome, God really did come to Earth and died for us like the Bible says: youtu.be
(This guy is not the best speaker IMHO, but he gives a good, up to date overview)
I'm not really confused. I know all the arguments against religion from the Richard Dawikns/ rational camp, so I don't need those explained to me, but the issues are:
1. Ridicule from anyone I mention it to, except the chan.
2. Family. they hate the church and see it as manipulative and oppressive.
3. Getting past my own head. I know that faith is not rational and I'll just have to feel if honestly in my own time.
I've been to the Episcopalian, Lutheran and Presbertyrian churches, just trying to see it from all sides.
It's our heritage.
John 3:16
Believe
I'm Southern Baptist.
My family is the same way, when I went to Church in high school you’d think I was worshipping Satan the way my Atheist dad reacted. We still have a good relationship despite me being a Catholic with Fascist sympathies and him being a liberal atheist. We just talk movies and family stuff instead of politics and religion.
Mere Christianity by cs lewis is a good introduction to Christian belief. Bishop sheen Fulton and Robert Barron also have great videos sepcific to Catholicism.
Ah alright man. Know that faith isn't irrational though.
This is a misunderstanding of faith that is popular in modern society. Faith is not simply trust in the premise of God being real. That is a faith of God. Christian faith is a faith of God. Faith in God is a trust in God's promises to us that must be exercised in our daily lives. To explain more practically - God is to guide all things to what is best for them and through doing his will for us we find an inner peace and an inner joy in this life. To be able to live by that in the day-to-day and not resort to something else requires faith.
I'm sure Lutherans were pretty distinctly different from your other two you visited. They are all Protestant so they will be pretty similar in structure. It's not until you get to Catholicism and Orthodoxy that things differ dramatically.
Jeez man. What was his first reactions to you being that way?
Since you are in the US. Avoid Orthodox and Catholic churches, definitely steer away from evangelical churches. Some non-denominational churches, and other protestant sects are based like baptists.
He knows I’m conservative, like guns, and have Christian beliefs, he was not happy, lol. Unfortunately and somewhat fortunately, we don’t live very close, but not because of a fight or anything.
I was an atheist for the biggest part of my life. Exposure to the degeneracy and decay of modernity convinced me we need Christianity as a moral and spiritual guide and without it the west will never recover or be worth saving. A couple of years in of reading the bible and prayer, I became a sincere believer. Good luck on your journey user, I will pray for you. Have a rare Christ-chan .
thanks, I'm glad guys like you are willing to support me. An evangelical friend here has also offered me support.
As much as I want to say become Catholic, most Novus Ordo parishes are super bluepilled, especially in the US. If you can, find a traditionalist or even sedevacantist church to get the true Catholic faith. Vatican 2 is heresy and has all but ruined us.
Here's a great one if you're just starting out. I'd also recommend finding an Orthodox Church (a mission parish if possible), but that's where my journey away from atheism led me. Yours will be different and will be your own. Enjoy it and thank God for it.
God bless you, user. I'll pray for you.
Thank you. I've actually read Mere Christianity. My issue is not the argument, but making sure that I am doing this from an honest place.
>Pray for me.
Done.
I think I understand. One thing that is ESSENTIAL, is that you must pray. It's one thing to talk about God, learn about God, and so on, but the only way to get to know Him is through prayer. That's how it worked for me. I had to humble myself and ask God (from my heart, with my whole heart) for Him to show me the Truth.
Do remember that God is a Person (well, three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and that as such, He is not obliged to "answer you" at your beckon call. But also remember that He loves you and wants you to know Him, and that He knows the best way of leading you forward.
Your "answer" to your prayer may not be immediately given. It may seem like God is not there at times, but He wouldn't be much of a God if you could just "summon" Him at will, right? Anyway, faith is central to your salvation. Faith is something we're terrible at, but God knows how to make yours stronger, how to mold and shape your faith.
I guess I'm saying that knowing "about" God is all well and good, and it's indeed the first step. But in order to know that you're being honest with yourself and with Him, you have to communicate with Him. And this must be done from your heart, with your whole heart.
In a way, I'm envious of you in that you're in a very interesting place in your journey. Enjoy it and remember that you're NOT alone in it. God is there to guide you.
Goodnight, user. God bless you.
It's ok; Jesus is better than everything you might lose.
If nothing else an Athiest can use the philosophy in Christianity to improve their lives
Memes are almost as good as Faith if you cant always have faith... Atleast thats what i tell myself... also tell myself God understands my struggle with God better then i do =/
We found a Jesus for you.
I have prayed. At this point, all I've done is to ask for more patience with people, and frankly, the prayer has been answered. I'm more aware when I get impatient with others and calm myself down.
