I agree, I want a barrier similar to Israel's; 35 foot barbwire fencing, then a ditch, then a concrete barrier with guard towers, and finally a ditch on the other side for transportation. The problem is that maintaining that kind of structure in any meaningful way would require constant military reinforcement of our boarders.
Now, I would say what we need to do is recall all our military from anywhere which is not advantageous for us to permanently hold. Have them reinforce not only our borders but take over for airport security and operations so that airports are not longer a private business that gives them immense political power through economic monopoly.
Also I think it's disgusting that immigrants have to know the country better than its own citizens. The education of our nation and its politics should be reinforced in public schools so that younger generations have a better sense of our history, the history of those who tried to manipulate us, and the reasons for how our government works. Our standards are in complete free fall.
