This is my experience growing up in Socal. Hispanics ARE very socially conservative. Wives play traditional roles in marriage, sons are expected to provide for a family early, daughters are raised to be good wives, elderly are taken care of, and they go to Mass every Sunday. 2nd and 3rd generation tend to be politically conservative as well. Some of the vehemently anti-dem people I've ever met were Hispanics.
I've never quite understood it either. Socially it doesn't make sense that they vote for Leftist, and politically they move away from it in subsequent generations. Maybe it's because the only Hispanics I knew didn't live or want to live in the city. Maybe city Mexicans are different.
