Would an EU army really mean that individual states must lose comtrol of their militaries? Why would unanimous consent to foreign interventions and military action be an obstacle to an EU army?
For me, an EU military principally means A. every EU national has the right to apply to every EU military unit in Europe (doesn’t mean he has to be accepted if he fails standards), B. adopting one common military language in addition to any local language and C. requiring all EU military units to adhere to common standards in particular relating to military readiness for war deployment.

It doesn't matter what it means to you, it matters what it means to the people building it. For now it would likely just be a unified command structure used for oversees deployments. Eventually though individual state militaries will be dissolved (you might get militias similar to ou national guard). For the military to function effectively it must have a central command structure (German of course) and it must have authority over the entire territory.
