I haven't gotten that impression at all. So far, I've only read Thomas and John (and John is canonical anyway), and my impression so far is only that gnosticism is the metaphysical aspects of Christianity without the stress on ritual and reality of miracles.

Edgy was challenging everyone who invoked God to explain why they believed what they believed. I abandoned that around age 21. Just recently, I've decided that I'm not going to ever recommend that someone stop believing in God, not matter what they reasons or framework. Catholicism, so far, hasn't worked for me. That's the denomination I left around age 15.

How is Catholicism not totally corrupted and dubious? It has been more interfered with by unscrupulous humans than, perhaps, any other sect of Christianity. Never mind the miracles, which I cannot bring myself to believe (although I don't think I would need to believe the miracles to become a Christian), the history of it actually troubled me more than the scripture.
