not op, but am 36, been in "techsupport" subject matter expert off and on for 12 years.
My experience has been yes it still exists in U.S. but you will probably have to move for it and prove yourself, make contacts (somehow). The work is becoming harder with you absorbing more job roles as they (bigger companies) attempt to raise productivity per employee as they lower payroll costs (less employees). TECH is being hit hard right now with the economy dump, right now publicly traded companies just want to lower costs.
My recommendations: watch youtube videos or Cloud training videos on acloudguru, or pluralsight on in demand skills and put them on your resume...
