They likely have no real understanding of world history, critical thinking, or philosophy. Their entire worldview is Jow Forums posts, infographics, and memes. I like to tell my normie friends (who are not connected to my work) that I browse Jow Forums whenever I get a chance. Last time I got together with my gay friends, we pondered whether slavery was more humane than the current corporate structure at the bottom - the consensus was that it very well could be.
Also recently, I explained to a lib friend that people need a place to say and be exposed to hateful shit, because it allows us to appreciate each other's (sub)humanity. Ultimately, even if the messages are hateful, we end up getting to information that exposes us to the random ass crapshoot that is identity in the 21st century; it reinforces that we are all individuals that are not identified by these biographical facts, but our thoughts, opinions, and struggles.
