I'm 27 and I STILL don't know what I want to do for a living.
My only two hobbies are all a manner of video games and movies with practical effects, and that's it.
I've been trying very hard to wrap my brain around what I want to do and I just keep coming up with nothing, and I'm really not getting any younger.
To those of you who were in my shoes: where did you start and at what point did you find the job you loved?

I don't know if it counts, but even though I'm mostly a hermit I am still somehow very good with people.
I was relatively popular at school despite not being interested in anything my peers were into, and I'm often the focus of attention wherever I go.
People say I have a great sense of humor, that I listen very well, and that I'm the life of the party but I personally don't see how considering I have next to zero care for any situation I'm in. I guess just because I'm not a jerk? I dunno.

Do you live with your parents or are you living on your own

I live in California, so living on my own is out of the question with my current circumstance. I pay for my own things though; I'm 100% against getting financial help from anybody.
It's just me and my Mom; my Dad passed away from cancer 5 years ago.

I understand there are circumstances when you want to not leave your parents for any reason but living with your mother tends to stop you from growing up. It's not her fault it is just being a nurturing mother and without your father to be stern and push you to be on your own it becomes frustrating to fulfill your own life.

Considering that many film careers and many videos game development studios are in California, why not try to get a job within the studio. If you want to do special effects or 3D modeling, make a portfolio or something.
