Men are competent and capable. Women and children are not. We'd built our society around that simple understanding, and developed unwritten rules of honor around it. No man could live with himself knowing he'd let a woman or child die in his place. They were to be protected and defended even at the cost of our lives.
As women became more pushy and demanding, men started giving more and more to them, thinking that because they were to be protected, they were also to be coddled and spoiled. Then children got out of control, realizing that the men around them weren't maintaining order anymore. The women could do whatever, so why can't we? Permissivism took hold, and men retracted into isolation and distraction. Women took over as head of household while father was away. Then father was kicked out of the house entirely.

If there is a lifeboat or "Ark" of some kind an ideal ratio might be 2:1 children to women (one for each breast) and 1:7 men to women (one for each day of the week) so if a lifeboat fits 20 people a good ratio would be 12 prepubescants seven pre menopausal women and one mid-20s to 50s (has reached full maturation but not degenerated) fighting fit man.

Women because they're more at risk and would likely be mothers to the surviving children that would care for them.
Men would be the most likely to survive, and the trade-off for increased social mobility compared to women back then was being expendable. They would also be seen as cowards if they boarded lifeboats.

It's because of all the layers women's dresses had back then. Each of those layers would take on water. If women hit the water they sank like rocks. Men at least had the chance to swim long enough to get picked up by a lifeboat.

The officers aboard Titanic knew no help was coming and that the ship was going to sink, the passengers believed everything was okay and so they were reluctant to get into the lifeboats. Many men willingly stayed behind because they thought it would make them look gentlemanly and because they saw it as there was nothing wrong to begin with.

On the part of Titanic's crew, the order regarding women and children was interpreted differently. First Officer Murdoch on the Starboard side heard it as "women and children FIRST" and Second Officer Lightoller on the Port side heard it as "women and children ONLY" and each acted accordingly with the lifeboats they were lowering. If a man was to go over to the Starboard side, they would be allowed onto a lifeboat. Men on the Port side were kept back.

It was somewhat an error. The order to load the lifeboats women and children first was given to two different men, which interpreted it differently. One crewman was loading the boat with women and children *first*, and then filling it with men when no more were in the area. The other guy was loading them full of women and children, and then lowering the lifeboat, whether it was full or not. This caused about 500 more deaths than there should have been.

At least when Thomas Andrews pulled Lightoller's ear he started filling up the lifeboats to full capacity, Murdoch lowered at least 4 lifeboats with fewer than 20 people in them for no real reason other than to try to make time to dispatch the collapsibles, to which there wasn't as the water reached the upper deck as they boarded.

It was a rational decision. If men fought each other for the rafts, many would have died (especially the weaker upper class men). Instead of allowing the lower class men be the ones to survive, the upper class men decided to say it was honorable to allow the upper class women and children and probably some lower class women to survive.

You're right about the orders being heard differently, though boats were lowered with empty seats on both sides, especially early on. For some reason the crew didn't think the davits could support the weight of the full boats. They also thought that they could load more passengers once closer to the water or in the water. Originally this was going to be done through A-Deck, which didn't work because Titanic had enclosed windows there (the officer(s) who came up with that plan were used to Olympic which was open on A-Deck). Then they were going to use the gangway doors on D-Deck, but by the time this was attempted the water was getting close to that level of the ship and because only one boat could get near it. Finally, Captain Smith tried to call back boats in the water to pick up more people and none of them returned.

Britannic sunk literally just 4 years later and the Olympic was scrapped after 2 decades of service, I don't know much about the other White Star Line vessels but compared to Cunard it seems that for every 5 ships they build 3 sunk

Yeah, it's very hard to criticize that thought process as awful as it was. With hundreds of people in the water, any boats that went back would have been swarmed and by that point most people they picked up would have died anyway unless there were dry clothes to quickly get them into.
No matter what happened, even if every lifeboat got away and with more than capacity loaded, a lot of people still would have died. It was a fundamental flaw in how maritime law was at that time with not requiring enough lifeboats (and ways to effectively lower them) for all and it was that very thing that made Olympic's original designer Alexander Carlisle retire, which is how Thomas Andrews became the head designer of Titanic.
