I think there were a lot of factors, one of them being that the locals were a lot more resistant to disease than American Indians for example. That and less immigration and less interbreeding than in the Americas meant that they were easily able to get the world on their side and kick out the "evil white men" from their newly independent country.
I think a lot of what happened is bullshit, and black south Africans wanting their land back is really no different than the government seizing my farm in Canada and giving it to the Indians so that it can rot.
"Their land". It wasn't even their country. They had their own homelands, which admittedly we interfered with, mainly to keep the standard of living to acceptable levels. We should have deported them all and brought in Europeans.
