A fireman is in a coma after he was shot in the back of the head ‘like a rabbit’ by police during demonstrations in France. Olivier Beziade, a father-of-three in his 30s, was pictured lying on the floor covered in blood and wearing a high-viz jacket during Yellow Vest demonstrations. He was shot in Bordeaux on Saturday night and doctors were quickly on the scene to help him.
His family have now said that he suffered a ‘very serious brain injury’. Olivier’s wife Cindy said: ‘I’m furious. This is unacceptable. I won’t let it go. The pictures speak for themselves.’ She was with her husband taking part in the so-called ‘Act 9 day of rage’ against the government. She told French media: ‘The demonstration was calm until about 4.30pm. I was with my husband in Rue Sainte-Catherine. ‘Then there was a bit of panic. It was at this point that a plainclothes officer appeared around a corner, and shot a flash ball at Mr Beziade. She added: ‘They shot at us like rabbits.’ The local police prefect has ordered a full investigation, claiming that a gang of Yellow Vests was ‘trying to get into an Apple store nearby’ at the time of the shooting.

Another ‘Day 10’ of demonstrations is planned for this Saturday, with Mr Macron apparently powerless to stop them, as the Yellow Vests call for his resignation. Yellow vest protesters and political rivals have criticised a sweeping ‘letter to the French’ from President Emmanuel Macron as not going far enough to quell national anger at his policies. Mr Macron’s letter explains how he is addressing the anti-government movement’s concerns through a ‘grand debate’ in local meetings around the country and on the internet, starting on Tuesday.
The debate will focus on taxes, public services, climate change and democracy.
In it, Mr Macron said there are no prohibited topics and lists more than 30 questions
Mr Macron also mentions the possibility of introducing annual immigration quotas, saying it would not apply to asylum seekers.
