It's complicated. In religion there are universal religions and there are ethnic religions.

Universal religions can apply to everyone and are generally seeking new converts. A universal religion would be something like christianity. You'll find tons of different christians of all races, black, asian, white, etc... They also have missionaries which seek to spread the religion.

In contract there are ethnic religions. Ethnic religions like Hinduism and Judaism don't really seek new converts and are usually tied to a particular ethnicity (although not always, there are always exceptions for everything).

So basically it's both. It's both a religion and a race with being a member of either the religion or the race leads people to call themselves "Jewish" under one umbrella term. Because this is really confusing you'll meet a lot of Jewish people (especially secular ones) refer to themselves as "ethnically Jewish, religiously [insert here].

Originally I was raised up until around 10 years old as a hasidic Jew (pic related) until I moved to another area after my parents got divorced (my mother disliked the way the orthodox community treated women and left it).

I still got a bar mitzvah at 13 (mainly to appease my aging great grandfather, and for the food and company) and celebrate Jewish holidays (mainly for the food and company). Up until I was 10 I was taught to respect other religions and to keep to yourself. Don't go around trying to meddle with other people's affairs and focus on being a good servant of God.

My family is conservative generally and voted for Trump (both my mother and father) and generally I've never felt a special connection with other Jews.

I will try to do the right thing. I don't think an entire group of people are doing evil (the fact that you think I can become a judas means you don't think that). I think people are just people who do good and bad actions.

If a Jew does something terrible (like Harvey Weinstein) I'll call him out for it. If a white person (or "Aryan") does something bad (like Ed Gein) I'll call them out on it. I won't bring race into the equation. I think the race has little to do with the actions.

There's terrible people in every race and great people in every race. You have to judge people as individuals. It's not convenient or easy but it's important.

One of the relatives had a concentration camp number tattoo (but I never really talked to him when he was alive) and the other I don't remember having a tattoo but I do remember me asking her about her childhood and she began crying (like a visceral ugly cry) and I had to be later informed that her parents died in the holocaust and she saw them die and it was a really touchy subject again. When you have hundreds of thousands of testimonies you'll find some people exaggerate stories or misinterpret things they thought they saw happening.

I don't see why I have to share personal anecdotes from my life in regards to Christians (or Jews for that matter), but I grew up going to school with two Jews. Somehow that fat fuck always got special treatment, both because of his "religion" and with what grades he got.

Later in life I've met Jews in the workplace (office) that were subversive as fuck. They fueled internal conflict everywhere they went and made sure that "their people" got all the right positions to secure themselves in the company. I watched it happen over a six year period.
