I like how they try to make it sound like Microsoft is doing charity work. When really they're planning to buy up most of the housing around them and turn them into tiny apartments. It's actually a pretty good business idea, might lower the cost of living in the area so that they can pay their workers less.
You do realize this has been done many times before. I know in one of my provinces a company has been responsible for a great deal of housing as well to accomodate its workers back some 60-40 years back

The old company towns were built because at the time there was not enough infrastructure. Seattle has plenty of houses and infrastructure. The problem is there are to many fucking people in an area that can not support the numbers.

You have to understand that people do not abuse opioids here to kill back pain or what have you. They do it to kill emotional pain.
There is nothing. We do not have purpose here. Local industry is dead, replaced by out-of-state franchise. Family is dead, replaced by social welfare. Religion is dead, replaced by commercial tribalism. Our culture is a commodity and it has been outsourced.
There is nothing genuine to engage with. All traditional self-expression is a shallow facade maintained for normalcy. The government is the provider. We have been used and abuse for generations because of our natural resources, and when it became politically expedient to throw us under the bus they did not hesitate. Our grandfathers trusted the government to protect us from corporate greed, and the government betrayed them.
You'd think we would be angry, and we were. But what could we do? Outsiders broke every native industry we tried to raise. But they did not break us. We broke us, because when technology caught up and the capitalist-government axis came back for more fossil fuels, we did not turn them away. We needed the money. We prostituted ourselves, knowing how it would end. And our fathers wept.

I have a friend in WV now. He said that there is FUCK ALL to do there. If you don't feel like hiking or hunting every day of the year, then good luck. The people there are for the most part uneducated, but not by choice, by opportunity. There are no schools around. So, between drinking to livin your life a little, or taking opioids to kill or numb the pain, you really can't knock WV too hard.
No factory jobs, no schools, nepotism is beyond out of control, no industry and no real agricultural developments. The worst, is when you realize this, want to get educated, want to move and want to live some semblance of a normal life, but can't because you can't afford the cost of relocating.
If I lived there, I would hitchhike or make my way to FL or Louisiana and try my luck there. Better to be homeless and lonely but warm, then homeless and lonely in the middle of buttfuck nowhere in the woods.
