Islam makes no sense theologically. It is like someone came along and wrote the last chapter of a book without ever having read the first chapters.

For anyone who has studied the Old Testament, they will notice that all of the prophecies and so forth that are established in the OT, like the Davidic king who is to reign forever, like the Son of Man prophecy of Daniel, like the fulfillment of the sacrificial system, all of that is just forgotten and dropped in the Quran. The covenants (again, like the Davidic Covenant) are dropped too. The prophecy of Joel that God would pour out his Spirit on all flesh is forgotten (unlike in Christianity where it finds its fulfillment in Pentecost), etc, etc, etc, etc. There are SO MANY reasons why the Quran makes no sense.

Of course, the ignorant Muslim response to all of this is to dig their head in the sand and take a dumbed down, anti-intellectual approach and to say, "Oh no no. Old Testament teaches montheism! Not trinity! Quran is true monotheism!"

And to someone who doesn't have an IQ of literally 85, they'll see this response and be like, "Uhh. Okay? That has nothing at all to do with what I said. I mentioned numerous covenants, typology, the Davidic messiah..."

Why do we follow the hadith? What is the point? They are constantly scrutinized for being unreliable and it's said that the Quran is essentially the perfect book and doesn't need anything else.

Because if you ever bother (as many Muslims don't) to read the Quran you will quickly realize it is an incoherent, bizarre unintelligible mess of a book. It cannot be understood with the Hadith providing historical context. Otherwise you would have no idea what this or that surah is even about. You have to know the historical context of them, which the Hadith provides.

Not to mention you only know about the origins of the Quran from the Hadith (Bukhari in particular).

Muslims don't really selectively choose them like that, though. They grade them according to how reliable the chain of narrators is, with the most authentic, trustworthy hadiths getting the "sahih" grade.

According to Hadith rejectors (sometimes called Quranist Muslims), these sahih graded hadiths basically become the equivalent of scripture, on the same level as the Quran.
