Fascism is a word that gets overused a lot and I'll be honest when I say that I barely even know what it means.
To the best of my knowledge, fascism is just putting nation first. The nation is above everything else and everything is in the service of the nation, no matter what that is.
For example, fascists will use the best parts of capitalism and the best parts of socialism to serve the country and they recognize there are faults in both of those things, so they are not afraid to abolish unions, for example, or punish businesses that conduct practices that they deem to be against the interests of the nation.
They also don't believe in absolute rights, so if they think that, let's say, Islam is bad for the country, they have no problem just outlawing it.
You guys can correct me if you want, but that's essentially what my understanding is.
In short, the nation is above all and every ideology can be cherry picked from for its advantages.
